Looking at specs / prices, has anyone here did a shoot-out between these two models (Premier Acoustic PA-120 –VS- Acoustic Audio HD-SUB12) to see which had better response in bass, bottoms out, cleaner sound for both music and theater, no dropping or air chuffing through the ports?
If so, which do you guys think is the better winner? ![]() Thanks |

![]() ![]() this thread is prob. way too old to pose this question, as it's comparing 2 diff. subs. I'd delete your post - word it differently maybe also ![]() (IF you have a PA Sub, that is. If you have an AA Sub, it'd prob. work best to use that thread). |

Checking if there's any updated info that anyone can share between the PA and AA subs. It doesn't have to be the 12" models either. Any feedback on the other models from either company relative to the other brand is appreciated.
I have the PA-120 and it seems to be a decent performer, though I'm not completely wow'd yet. I'd like a low-cost option for upstairs and am wondering if the AA would be a better option. |

I highly recommend the PA-120. It is internally braced and solid. The interior walls are lined with polyfill sheets. I was really amazed at how well built the PA-120 is for the money. I wasn't so impressed when I saw the insides of the AA HD-Sub12.
However, don't forget these are just budget subs. Comparing their bass extension is meaningless because neither is really capable of going much below 24 Hz at distortion-less levels that you would truly appreciate. If you want a sub that can do that, then get an eD or SVS. Buying the AA sub just because it goes 2 Hz lower won't add up to much in this price range. You do want clean, smooth bass response and wide dynamic range over the range of bass frequencies that these subs can actually handle. The PA-120 does that extremely well. I have two PA-120s. Neither has ever bottomed out even when I watched movies at reference level that had demanding bass like, for example, WOTW, just to see how they would perform. I have never heard any chuffing noise. They performed surprisingly well. One thing I did was added 0.75 to 1.0 lb of polyfill to each of mine. That got rid of the boominess and tightened up the bass. After that these subs were equally great for either movies or music. Yes, they did have a little boominess before that wasn't all that terrible but it did muddy up music a little bit. My suggestion to you is just buy whichever one costs less or get a better deal on. Last edited by Yeha-Noha; 08-07-2011 at 05:40 AM. |
