Default Subwoofer recommendation

I'm buying the Polk Tsi300s and the Polk CS10 speakers for my surround I really need a recommendation on a good fairly inexpensive in my sub. My real purpose is so the neighbors can feel the sub.

I have looked at the Klipsch Sub-12 and the Polk PSW125 subwoofers I know the klipsch is plenty loud enough but I have never listen to the Polk. I'm open for other recommendations other brands doesn't matter. I would like to stay under or around $300 if possible.thanks much

Myself and some others have this set-up (Forsberg21 also) and we all love it. But I assume the 125 packs more OOMMPPHH, so as many say, "let your ears do the talking", if possible. I've only had the 2 Subs for a week or so and the room is small so if your room is larger, maybe you want/need the Klipsch or PSW125 you noted. My CS10 just arrived Friday. Major improvement on what I had.

Good luck!

My set-up is for a room that is basically 10X 20, so using 2 Polk PSW-10 subs works very well. With your price range, it all depends on a number of variables that you are looking for in your subwoofer. I can tell you that for around $300, if you can find that Klipsch sub, then that would do the trick. Many here will tell you they don't like Polk subs, but again, it comes to the "ear" of the beholder. The 2 Polk subs work for me, but if I had more money, getting one really good sub will do the trick, and Klipsch is a very good brand.

By the way, the CS-10 is a nice addition. Got those with my T90e's and subs, and my soundstage has improved dramtically.

Don't forget to play with your subwoofer for location. It can make a big difference to how you hear and feel the lower db's. Play around a bit to find what you think is the best sound. Sometimes this involves having a longer audio sub cable to do so, but it is worth it. I have two 25' cables, and it gives a lot of flexibility as to where I can set up my subs. Monoprice or CableSimple are good places to look for cables.

Lastly, that Kenwood receiver looks a little old (not really, but maybe 3 yrs or more?) so are you going to be able to supply enough power to get the most out of your new speakers and sub? I'm not too familiar with it, so you may want to think about what kind and how much power you should have to power your new audio gear.

Good luck!

For under $300, look at the internet direct brands such as Cadence and Acoustic Audio - you'll get more sub for your money than you would with Klipsch or Polk or any other speaker manufacturer.

Elemental Designs A2-300 is also a great bet for $350ish.

I'm curious, for those with two subs, how do you set them up? I know I've heard of using two so that one is dedicated to the lower end and the other to the higher end frequecies. How would you do this with only one Pre-out for a sub? Or do you set each sub to the same settings?

Use a 1 Male/2 Female Y-Splitter from the back of your subwoofer out on your receiver. Then run both sub cables from the Y-Splitter to each sub. Works very well. I set the receiver at 120 hz and adjust the volume on each subwoofer to get the sound I want.

I bought my Y-Splitters from CableSimple for under $5 each.

And call it P.O.S.S.Y. (Polk O-diophile Same Set-up SocietY) -

To join, you need either a CS10 or 20, T90e's for Fronts, Tsi100's or Mon. 30's/40's for Rear surrounds, and 2 PSW-10's or comparable dual Polk Sub set-up. Membership fees to be discussed at a later date & time.

(Yes, I know. I know. Apologies to all in Advance - Oh, and I DO know how to spell "AUDIOphile" - work with me people!) -- (Heads out the door Quick like, ducking the flying eggs/tomatoes!)

The Kenwood is 600W 100w per channel with a 55w rms and a 100w sub out. Now I'm not sure on the sub output but I'm certain that the 55w RMS is more than enough to power the polks. My father had the kenwood speakers back in the day and they were about the same size and power rating as the polks all around.

I will be upgrading it to probably the Sony STR-DG820 soon also.

It really dosen't matter what the RMS on the receiver is, because the subwoofer has it's own amp. You will plug the subwoofer amp into the pre out on the receiver.
