this is hella lame. Some movies just shouldn't be remade. Ben Hur is one of the all time greats. If you want people to know that story, why not just hype a 60 year (or how ever long it's been) commerative version of the original Ben Hur?

As long as it is a TV movie I'm not worried. Lots of stuff has bee made for TV including The Ten Commandments. It baffles me that these TV stations already have the rights to show the originals so why produce a new one and spend millions? Might as well do something new with the money. Maybe I'm missing something.

I don't mind when movies based on novels are made a zillion times. They're not remakes of each other to me; they're just different takes on the novel. |

I'll pass too! Until "Titanic" (1997) came along and later "LOTR: Return of the King" Ben-Hur (1959) held the record for most Oscars with a total of 11. That's 38 years!

Ben Hur '59 was supposed to come out on Blu this year (for the 50th anniversary), but that isn't going to happen now since Warner has decided to do an entirely new 1080p transfer of the film (as many people complained about the most recent DVD transfer.) We're looking at next year or possibly 2011 for the 59 version to hit Blu.
As for another remake, I'll pass. The 25 and 59 versions are amazing. We don't need another. |

1959's Ben-Hur was simply made for money. MGM had financial trouble and needed a big hit, so they chose the safe way and produced a remake of a well-known hit back then (sounds familiar, doesn't it?) and it simply paid off. |
