T.I. Sentenced To A Year And A Day In Prison - Blu-ray Forum

Judge Charles Pannell Jr. told the rapper he had more than exceeded the court's expectations, and he hoped his case would inspire similar plea deals.

"I'm resistant to the lockup mentality," Judge Pannell told the courtroom. "I hope this sentencing leads to other experiments that will protect the community and show a respect for the law."

Tip is scheduled to report to prison voluntarily within the next six to eight weeks. However, the judge acknowledged that the rapper has agreed-upon commitments that will not allow him to enter prison before May 19.

Under the plea deal, T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) must submit to a number of rigorous requirements after his release from prison. The rapper will be subjected to an audit of his finances, drug counseling, DNA testing and random searches of his property, and he will not be able to own firearms. He will also be under home confinement after his release under the same pre-trial conditions, which included a curfew, permission-only travel and a court-appointed supervisor.

So if I understand this correctly, anytime within the next 6-8 weeks, T.I. can choose to turn himself in for his sentence? Is there any other convicted criminals getting this kind of treatment?

The judge is just respecting others affected by the rappers misconduct. I think its fair

Good thing they dropped the Auto Tune abuse charges, otherwise he would have gotten life.

I think the difference is going to a Prison instead of a jail

Crimes punishable by more than 1 year (felonies) are served in prison.

Crimes punishable by 1 year or less (misdemeanors) are served in jail.

Never heard of this TI fella,

But I do find it hard to believe these fine rap music people would be involved in anything other than wholesome upstanding activities. The "thug" stuff is just fake right?

Not to defend him, but if people aren't familiar with his side of the story:

Four people in his "crew" were shot (one died), and TI felt that the shooters were trying to kill him.

He decided he needed to protect himself, so he figured he'd buy some machine guns (pretty normal, right?

)

Anyway, his bodyguards (who had secretly become informants) went and bought him some guns, and then TI got arrested, because he's not actually allowed to own guns (TI was already a convicted felon at the time).

I assume TI has new bodyguards now.

The good thing is now he can say he's got "the man" trying to hold him down, and sell more records because he's "legit" and spent some time in "the joint".

He had a previous drug conviction, which made him owning any firearm illegal.

That's what I always figured... if you watch any Rap artist accepting an award they always thank god and their parents...

So thanking god and your parents means you're squeaky clean? Sure, most of them might just be putting up an image, but I wouldn't doubt the past lives some of them lived.
