Default Blu-rays being released with Standard Dvds, Is this going to be standard practice?

blot and marley and me on blu ray, come with the standard dvd. disney did this with pinocchio, and sleeping beauty.. will they be doing that with all releases from now on for disney? what about this other company? why are they including a standard copy if u buy the blu ray? that is a good deal . wouldn't that drop standard dvd sales? cuz u can buy both versions for 1 price. i hope they keep it up! i'll consider buying movies ! if snow white has standard ed. with the blu ray, i'll buy that.

They are trying to market it as a reason to upgrade to the Blu-ray and start getting more customers. It also is nice for people with kids or with dvd players in their cars.

Disney I think will keep doing it at least through this year. But other companies I would be surprised, unless they finally decide to go full steam ahead with blu and try to transition that way.

Princess Bride also includes a DVD copy and Spaceballs is listed as having a DVD copy included as well.

Disney did some smart marketing and released Bolt on Blu-ray Disc/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack two days before the DVD. So if you wanted to get Bolt early, you could and if you did not have a BD player...you had a disc for when you get one.

Fox and Disney will be doing it for many releases this year. Particularly films aimed at kids, women, and families. But there can always be other exceptions as well.

I think it's a good idea.. DVDs can be used in many more places but when it's time to sit down and crank the main system it's still blu!

I for one am all for it!, more options are better, not worse for a format.

Dvds are so cheap to press in large quantities that the studios are throwing them in to entice customers on the fence who own Blu-ray but prefer dvd for whatever reason.

Blot, eh? Sorry, somebody had to mention it. I think it's great and I look forward to more releases with a DVD in them.

I usually give my digital copy to someone who doesn't own any blu-ray. I don't need an extra copy since I will own the blu-ray. It'll be cheaper if it only included the blu-ray disc.

No it won't Blu-ray Price range will stay the same Digital Copy, DVD or not. Typically Disney's offert the choice but their choice cost more than other CE, like Lionsgate. I mean i can have Punished + Digital Copy for 19.99$CAD locally. So it doesn't boost the price.

I got Princess Bride for 15$...

I hope it is the norm. It is definitely better than those with digital copies. Its also handy to take and play in your portable dvd players

Default Let's hope so

Digital copy is useless, period. A standard dvd gives me the ability to watch the film anywhere. Blu-ray players aren't commonplace yet, and having to lug mine around the house to watch flicks gets tiring. The dvd is a stanard format that I can pop in a player while this moronic digital copy is so restrictive; it in essence negates itself as a feature.

It's also nice for people who only have Blu-ray in one room in their home but would like to watch the movie in another room with a DVD player.

Yeah I really enjoy paying a few bucks more for a DVD that I didn't even want in the first place. Reminds me of HD-DVD/DVD combo discs.
