Very nice. It's easy to spend $2000 alone on one component, but it is certainly possible to put together an entire 5.1-channel theater for the same money, too. Entry level prices shown below:
40" TV: $800 (price varies substantially) BD Player: $200 A/V Receiver (offering lossless audio processing): $300 Front Speakers (pair), $250 Center Speaker: $100 Surround Speakers (pair): $100 Subwoofer: $150 Cables/Misc : $100 Add these together for $2000 (stand not included, unfortunately). Of course, these will be mainly budget components, taking advantage of sale prices at known websites such as Newegg.com, 6ave.com, TigerDirect.com, Amazon.com, Monoprice.com, etc. Prices can vary, but there should be a substantial improvement in overall audio quality going the $2K route over traditional HTIBs costing, assuredly, much less. One budget HTIB I found having a touch of meaningful sonic poise is the Samsung HT-AS720 system. It has a lightweight, though full-sized, 7.1-channel component receiver running a 4-ohm ("650 watt" ![]() All that said, yes, one doesn't have to break the bank to break into home theater. Certainly, separately selected components will pay larger sonic and visual dividends, but there's usually an option for every budget! ![]() |

I problably spent almost $2000 on our TV, but here is what you can spend the cheapest "150 inch 1080p, Lossless 7.1 channel system. Here's a list.
http://www.visualapex.com/Vivitek/pr...or-the=H1080FD $1000 http://www.visualapex.com/Projector-...M150XWH2&AR=HT $170 http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DH700...2865101&sr=1-2 $199 http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-SP18...KKRJQ2Z922GNT8 $126 http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SSF-5000-...2865179&sr=1-1 $115 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-...2865239&sr=1-2 $180 http://www.amazon.com/25ft-HDMI-Cabl...865326&sr=8-15 $10 http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-meter-foo...2866040&sr=1-1 $.01 http://www.amazon.com/Pyramid-RSW121...2865505&sr=1-2 $20 Should equal $1821 (Not including shipping) as of it writing, which you get a 1080p projector, 150 inch screen, a 7.1 AV receiver with HDMI and Lossless audio support, a speaker system with subwoofer and two towers, a good blu ray player, a long HDMI cable (receiver to projector), a shorter HDMI cable (Player to receiver), and 100 feet of 12 gauge speaker wire. Prices may change due to competition and may be higher due to shipping. |

Let's see..what did I spend:
Mits HC 1600 720p - $550 MP HDP 1800 - $140 Elite Screen - $100 Marantz 7.1 - $550 Couch $700 TV Stand $50 Curtains/rods $200 plus.. Wires around $200... Speakers around $1200 (center was $750) Projector wall shelf $50 Touch lamps $60 Center speaker stand $30 Emotiva XPA-3 $450 $4280... Damn. I'm nowhere near satisfied on completion of living room also. That doesn't even include the Pioneer Elite SC-05 and Pioneer Elite 23fd I bought for my bedroom. So doing a projector setup under $2000 isn't all bad. That was originally what I was figuring on spending and slowly upgrading. So much for that happening. I will be getting a raise soon so I can finish things off on 7.1 and the nonstop ongoing upgrades. |

Haha...i'm over $5000 just the past month. I'm working on the subs this coming month which should be another $1000. There is this new Mits projo 1080p w/ support for anamorphic lens coming out later this year that I'm highly thinking of getting. Lol...I have a list....and it seems to just grow. You know what I speak of more than anyone.

My friend just ordered top of the line deftech's...couple pioneer plasmas...etc. So that will only fuel the fire. He is going to pick the speakers up later this weekend so it will just make things worse for me (on the wallet anyways). His stuff is just going to be way over the top for the apt he has. I wouldn't be spending that much from student loans and the speakers are going to be overkill in the small bedroom 'theater room'. It will look awesome but I think those deftechs will be too much with interference for such a small room. Stay tuned as I'm sure he'll be posting pics up on this soon.

+1. My bedroom cost is almost about what I spent on living room. That's not including furniture..desk..media cabinet. I wouldn't have it any other way. Loving it.

Haha...I have to admit I somewhat agree myself. I'll be putting up some acoustic panels...artwork...etc..eventually to give it a better 'feel'.
