Hi. I have an older lcd tv with no HDMI plug in,Panasonic PT-50C13K. I have just purchased a Sony STR-DG720 AV receiver and Sony BDP-S550 blu-ray player. I have a 5.1 Polk speaker package.
Problem is with the cart full of assorted wires and cables I (ha ha) thought I needed I can't get any audio from the blu-ray to the speakers,I have rca fromthe blu-ray to TV and component from tv to player. Want to have home theater work, spent to many hours on belly switching stuff.I need simple instructions for hooking this wiring mess I've made up. Thank you muchly |

I probably can't direct you too well but you didn't seem to specify how you hooked up your audio to the receiver. Also if you used component cables to the TV from the Blu-ray player you don't need the RCA composite cable if that is what you hooked up, definitely stick with the component cabling for the video. The receiver has a TOS-link I think, but I couldn't tell if it has an analog 7.1 input as well, another big group of RCA cables. So you need to hook up one of those two methods, I believe, to get the audio.
If you hook up the HDMI from the Blu-ray to the receiver I don't think the HDCP will be granted so that would stop the audio. I believe to use the HDMI from the Blu-ray player to the receiver you will also have to have an HDMI to the TV so that leaves you out. However if you can hook up the analog audio cabling you might be in business. Plus you will probably have to set up the audio in the Blu-ray to output analog if you go that route. Using the TOS-link might give you some good sound but I think it will be limited compared to the analog. I am way beyond my knowledge base in this realm, sorry about that. Hopefully some real expertise will answer your questions soon, but do post what you connected for audio from the Blu-ray player to the receiver. |

I think your TV has a DVI connection. (this is your TV correct?)
the connection looks like this: ![]() so, you should get an HDMI cable (from Bluray player to Receiver) and an HDMI-DVI cable (from Receiver to the TV). Obviously you can get these cables in different lengths. ![]() Last edited by crackinhedz; 04-05-2009 at 04:06 AM. |

crackinhedz got you all sorted out. Follow his links to buy the cables and advice on how to hook the cables up. Just make sure you download the latest firmware for your BD player.
