Default Networking issue BD-p1600

Hi, I am new to the BD world but have quite a bit of experience on the PC side so I didn't think this would be so hard. No matter what I try I can't get my BD-p1600 to grap an IP address off DHCP. Things I have tried:

Verified that my Internet connection is working (I am posting from it now).
Turning the player on and off.
Turning my router on and off.
Switching network cables.
Using a crossover cable.
Removing all other devices from the network.
Calling my ISP (Comcast) to make sure that they weren't blocking it or needed to register the MAC address or something like that. They reset my modem and made sure DHCP was on and that there were no restrictions.
Took the original BD-p1600 I had bought yesterday and exchanged it for a new one today as I thought it was a hardware issue.
Toggled DHCP on and off to see if that would prompt it to grab an IP address.

So, as you can see I have tried quite a bit of different things to no avail. Any ideas? Anything glaring out that I am forgetting to do? Thanks in advance.

There is an existing thread on the issue..it appears that the 1600 needs a Samsung antenna to be able to connect via WiFi. I am sure that somone will psot the link to that thread.

Thanks Blu, but it's not really important for me to connect via wi-fi. I should have specified, but I am hardwired in to my router.

Is the router between the 1600 and your cable modem. If so,...I would suspect the router. I had a similar problem with a 2500 connecting. I replaced the router/modem combo with a ported modem,......everything connects fine now.

BTW,....I had a Belkin router. Try a direct connect to the modem to see if the player will connect,...if it does,...it's the router.

Default Router issue solution

I also had the same issue as the original poster. I followed the direction from a secondary poster suggesting hooking up the player directly through the cable modem, skipping the router. This worked.

I was not satisfied, so I messed with my router settings, and noticed in the security log that it was blocking the Blu-Ray player due to a Denial Of Service Attack. I assume this means the Samsung was trying to send too many messages or requests in too short a period of time.

I ended up turning off the router firewall and then the player was able to connect to the network. It is slightly less secure this way, but I can offload the firewall duties from my router and onto my PC, which is where any threat of attack is worrisome anyway.

Hope this helps.

I never had any issues at all connecting my BD-P2500 to my network and it goes through two routers and the built in router on the at&t residential gateway (RG). Make sure that you do not use the "uplink" port on routers downstream from the main router (or RG if that is your set up). If you use the ports other than the "uplink" port, the router will act only as a switch.

Why don't you just put in a static IP?
