torn between Panny plasma and Sammy LCD

Been doing the research and think I am leaning to replace my Sammy A650 with a plasma set. But I do like how these new LED LCD Sammy's from Luxia look. so, my dilemma is this...

2 TVs look great to me (and within my $ range - I KNOW...Kuro's rule, but need the dosh, really)...

The Panny TH-58PZ800U and the Sammy UN55B6000. Both look the produce decent blacks and sharp images.

Which one??

I'd get the 800u. Im not a fan of the "edge lit" LEDs. Your still debating this huh...

I'm gonna save everyone the trouble of posting and I'll tell you what everyone else will.
1. "Go with Panasonics, they make the best plasmas".
2. "Hey maybe this Pioneer is in your price range, it's on sale and they make the best plasmas in the world.
3. "I wouldn't go with LCD. Plasmas have deeper blacks and are better."

These aren't my opinions, they're just what you'll get in a nutshell. Personally I own 2 Samsung plasmas. They're priced really great compared to other brands and the picture is amazing.

I'm going to make a choice this weekend I swear.

Everytime I go into a store I see something better, but nothing perfect.

Oh, how I miss my Sony Bravia XBR CRT(the big screen - all 41 inches). But I couldn't find a wall mount that supported 300 pounds

Kuro's produce deepest blacks, but comparing apples to oranges, does a lower end plasma produce deeper blscks than high end LCDs?? I think so, right?

Ok ok, no more posts - I'm going to get the Panny

No, the high end LCD's will have better blacks than the lower end plasma's, but the Panny's are not lower end plasma's and the G10 has an ANSI contrast of almost 4,000:1 which will be several times better than just about any CCFL-LCD and likely top most LED-LCD's as well when sitting anywhere other than dead centre.

I think samsung makes the best LCD's but nothing compares to plasma IMO, especially when watching movies. I would personally go with the plasma.

I have the pz85u and haven´t seen any flicker while reproducing 24p. Even if it were, I don´t think you´ve noticed the difference between using 24p or not, it is extremely hard and you get an incredible picture in this set, especially when calibrated (at least with a calibration disc not eyeballin)

I was checking out a Samsung LED 46" TV those at Bestbuy today. It was pretty sweet and, man, this thing was like 1.25 inches thick!

It's extremely light as well.

The type of TV you want is in the eye of the beholder. Many people actually prefer LCD over Plasma due to it's intrinsic nature. They feel it is brighter, more visually stunning whereas the plasma is looks like it is being viewed in a movie theater.

There are technical differences between the two...but there are many many ecstatic LCD owners and, while I think plasmas are a better quality picture technically...these Sony/Samsung/etc LCDs I see have a beautiful picture.

The Samsung LED TV is getting alot of good reviews. Buy what YOU like cause it's your money. My best advice is to research it...the more knowledge you have the less likely you'll deal with buyer's remorse. This is, for most of us, a pretty big purchase

That's what the 60Hz mode is for. Feed in a 24p input, the G10 processes every signal with flying colours.

And this is based on what, exactly? Where are your independent product reviews that show this? Oh, that's right, there are NONE. Opinions are fine, but if that's what this is, then state it as your opinion and not some psuedo-fact with nothing to support it. Otherwise, it's nothing but flame-bait and trolling-fodder.

They are two diff techs....a plasma and a lcd. Having both plasma and lcd I would go with plasma. Sammys are really great lcds and go toe to toe with Sonys [and thats my opinion] but a Panny plasma you just cant go wrong with! Let us know what you decide on!

if they are so great then why do they display like trash dim soft and lifeless at least in every store i've been to even though angles are suppose to not fade Another issue with most plasmas is that the glass screens are subject to reflections and glare. If you have the lights on while watching dark scenes, you might see mirrorlike reflections on a plasma sets its not a reason to buy one

So basically you're saying that the experts are wrong. The many videophiles are wrong. The large number of everyday people who just make the decision based on their eyes or word of mouth who then post glowing remarks on Amazon and other store sites are wrong. I'm sorry, but you are in the minority here. Yes, plasma screens can be a bit reflective in brightly lit rooms. This is no different then your old CRT. The same can be said for many of the newer shinier LCD's although not as bad. A lot of newer plasmas have coatings on the glass that minimize this effect though. I personally am not bothered with glare with the lights on and my lights are pretty bright. Of course dark room viewing is ideal and the main way I view movies anyway.

If you see a properly set up Panny in an ideal setting I'm 99.9% sure you would have a change of heart. Set up next to a Sammy 650, a good TV in its own right, in a dim room you will see a much more lifelike picture that nearly jumps off of the screen with deeper blacks and more pop. I've owned many LCD's, and I've looked at the best of them. One thing I can say is that rarely do you find one where images look as 3D as a plasma portrays. Most LCD's give a flatter look unless you are watching from dead center. Just a foot over to either side takes that appearance away with colors that start to wash out the further to the side you move. No matter what angle you look at a plasma you will get the exact same image with all of its glory. There is not an LCD in existence that can do that. Oh, and stores are the worst way to assess a TV unless you can find one that is dimly lit...a rare find. Most have some sort what I would call high beams on.
