Default Blu-ray Transfers

Here's my opinion: Now, I'm sure that many have stated what I'm about to say - I'm sure there's plenty of threads with the same idea I have - I'm not taking away from anyone but I wanted to share my opinions of movies that get blu ray transfer

Again, this is my opinion

I think it's unrealistic for any movie that was not filmed "digitally" to get a perfect blu ray transfer

That's why everyone is in love with Transformers and Iron Man on blu ray

The older movies tend to be grainy and because most where not shot digitally, it's harder to make the transfer to a perfect PQ that we're all looking forward to

I know I'm stating "no brainer" stuff, but I wanted to give my thoughts about the subject - I'm sure there are a lot of ppl on this board that know more than me, but this is my opinion that I wanted to share

I don't get my hopes up when an old movie gets a blu ray transfer and it's not up to par with Transformers or such....With superb audio, I believe they're still better than DVD quality

I can't speak for all blu ray movies that have been released...maybe some older movies have a perfect PQ and so ppl question why other older movies can't get the same transfer

Just keep in mind that beauty is in the eye of the beholder

So everyone enjoy your blu ray movies - let's keep questioning anything and everything

In the end, I'm probably talkin' outta my butt - so...there ya go

Yes you are. You should know neither of those films were shot digitally.

See Casablanca, Dr. No, South Pacific

I am sure there are a few people who do not have these in the library because they feel these are "immature" films.

Grain and film damage were added to the digitally created Surf's Up to give it the look of film. Grease and Saturday Night Fever were shot in the 1970s and were not given the Lowry grain elimination restoration yet they both have far less grain than Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Miami Vice was shot digitally and most of it is FULL of grain.

Ditto 300.

Get over the lame grain b.s. and learn about the film image.

Yes indeed, those can make good transfers. Case in point is 2001: A Space Odyssey. The PQ is reference quality.

I just watched The Robe last night and it looks fantastic. Just awesome for a film from 1953.

I'd suggest doing a little more research before you start a thread where you believe to know all the facts. If it's your opinion that film shot "digitally" are superior on blu ray you can believe that but you are wrong. Then you use two movies as examples that were shot on film! True fans and experts know film is still superior to digital.

Then, you aren't being realistic.

Please tell us then, which older movies, beheld by your eye, didn't have such beauty?
Some examples, please.

That's only the statement in your post that makes any sense. LOL. But hey, you're ok. Honesty goes a long way, and I like that.

I don't like grain, but Iron Man and Transformers were both shot on film so it sort of ruins your whole argument.

No, there are lots of movies that were shot completely digital. Collateral, Miami Vice, Hellboy II, Superman Returns, Planet Terror, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones are just a few off the top of my head.
