Default Does anyone else think 24 is really grainy?

I have been watching season 7 of 24 on Fox HD, and started to notice its getting really grainy and noise. Now, I am familiar with film grain and its intention as a whole, but, 24 just seems over the top and way too much to be considered cinematic. Is it just me and my crappy cable service? Or is what others are seeing also?
Thanks in advance

Did you calibrate your television?

It is NOT your tv! I have been wondering what the F is going on myself! 24 has gotten noticeably worse the last few weeks in pq. There are tons of white noise dots in the dark shots. It almost seems these last 6 episodes they shot after the writers strike they used a crappy camera or something compared to the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see how it looks on blu-ray. I at first thought our local FOX cable channel had turned into crappy quality but I'm seeing others on other forums as well complaining.

Thank you! I understand grain, but man, the white dots are crazy and fluctuate like crazy.

Yep it's extremely grainy especially with all the night shots. To be fair not many shows spend as much time as they do in the dark. That said, it's not so out of the spirit of the show, and it has bigger problems.

Yeah, but I agree that it seems to have gotten worse the past few weeks, almost to the point of being distracting. I certainly don't remember it being as pronounced as it was tonight in the past.

Yea its grainy for sure thats how they shoot it to keep it gritty. I compared it to The Sarah Connor Chronicles and was painfully obvious thats how they want it to look. (I will never understand why, but whatever I still enjoy it!)

Hmmm, 24 has been grainy for as long as I can remember. I've been watching since the second season too. But yes, I noticed it as well. I wonder how dark on location shoots are? High ISO??

As I agreed

I think it's source and not really provider perse. But we will have to see when it's released on Blu

24 has always had some grain, but this year it is over the top. Almost every scene this year has been outside in the dark. I have DirecTV HD and almost every other show looks great. Even Big Bang Theory looks awesome compared to 24, but I realize they are going for two different visual effects. The volume has always bothered me on 24 as well. You have to turn the volume way up for the show and then if you don't start to fast forward commercials fast enough you get blasted with the huge volume increase.

My mom was complaining about that today too. She had the volume clear up to max on the tv (60) and asked me why it was so low. I said, "That's an HD channel for you. But the commercials should be plenty loud enough for you mom."
