Default Rourke and Gandolfini for Paxton Western!?!?

Now this is what I'm talking about, however must agree with the praise for Frailty, nothing with McConaughey is good, but anyways this western might

Quote:
According to Production Weekly, Mickey Rourke and James Gandolfini are circling "Seven Holes for Air", a dark western being directed by actor Bill Paxton.

Though better known as an actor, "Big Love" star Paxton has actually directed a couple of terrific films - one of them, the spine-tingling thriller "Frailty" (1998), might even considered a masterpiece. Pity nobody much saw it. If you do feel like watching a good movie tonight.. or even this weekend... rent it; it's a beauty. Might be Matthew McConaughey's last good flick, too. Great performance in there from Powers Boothe, too.

Did a Google search on "Seven Holes", but it found nothing - in fact, not a thing. Whatever the case, if Rourke and Gandolfini are considering it, it must be a goodie. Hopefully we'll have something on it soon.

Never thought of Gandolfini in a western but it could be very cool with a dark theme. And yes Frailty is a great, underrated movie.

+1 even if with everything I've read on here I am the only person who really enjoyed Appaloosa. But that was also probably the closest book adaptation to movie I've ever read and seen. Yes, I hated Zellweger in it as always but Ed and Viggo ruled!!

Man, I must have started 3 or 4 Appaloosa threads and liked it just as much as Unforgiven. Probably one of the most Authentic (to the times) Westerns ever made. And Zellweger was supposed to be hated. She was perfectly cast. Love me some Appaloosa. The most regrettable would be not to have the sequel made.

I must have missed all your Appaloosa threads, I too loved it as much as Unforgiven. What did you think of Open Range? I think I have never seen in my life a better way to kick off an old school classic gunfight quite like the one with Costner and Kim Coates. That was PERFECT! And oh my god I am awaiting getting time to pick up Brimstone, but I might need to reread Resolution first as it's been quite awhile. It wasn't that I don't think Renee didn't make me hate her acting enough in the movie, I just in general hate everything she touches, and I particularly dislike her face and voice the most haha.

Loved Open Range. Costner makes good Westerns (IMO) plus it had Robert Duvall! Yeah, I feel exactly the same about Renee. When I I saw she was in it I cringed, but then I saw her character and I thought to myself, well, at least there's that.

When I think of Zellwegger the words "Ugly Wh***" always come to mind, however than I ask, why would anybody wanna play musical organs with that? I wouldn't **** her with Bea Arthur's d***..........

Do you think we will ever get that sequel Ed Harris said if the movie made back it's $20 million he would make it, but it barely grossed that and that was only due to the foreign market. I am ashamed to be an American when fantastic westerns can't gross $20 million but movies with talking Chihuahas, and Zack Efron gross $200 million................

hey guys just found this article on The Hollywood Reporter from yesterday

Kevin Costner is returning to the Western genre with a new miniseries project at A&E.

The "Dances With Wolves" actor-director is developing a four-hour movie for the cable network.

The untitled project has Costner partnering with producer Armyan Bernstein ("The Hurricane," "Open Range") to tell a post-Civil War story covering a major conflict in the settlement of the West. Costner will executive produce and might direct part of the miniseries.

"Costner understands the Western better than anybody, and he respects the genre," said Tana Nugent Jamieson, the network's senior vp drama programming. "He knows every bit of detail about the West; this is a genre he feels a lot of passion for. It's a perfect fit."

Costner might also appear in the project, depending on the final script. Jamieson said Costner has expressed interested in one of the roles, which is being drafted.

"There is a character that he's interested in, and we're hoping he will potentially play, but until we have a script we can't say too much," she said.

The project will be announced at A&E's upfront presentation Thursday along with the network's other new scripted developments. If greenlighted, the Western will be the network's second miniseries following last year's adaptation of "The Andromeda Strain," which became A&E's second-most watched program ever (4.9 million viewers) and earned seven Emmy nominations. Jamieson said A&E hopes to have one big event miniseries a year.

In addition to "Wolves," which won the Oscar for best picture of 1990, Costner also appeared in the Westerns "Silverado," "Wyatt Earp" and "Open Range."[/quote]

After seeing what he did in Frailty, I can't wait to see this. It is also good to see Mickey Rourke getting more roles. I also loved Appaloosa and Open Range. The thunderstorm scene at the beginning of Open Range would be amazing in lossless surround.

This is great news! Costner really does have a love of the West. I'm sure if he ends up involved, we'll be able to look forward to high production values.
