India/Bollywood Pricing of Bollywood Blu rays

This thread is not a war thread. It is just to understand how Bollywood blu rays are priced across the world.

I do undersyand that each company has different pricing policies for different regions but while going through the 3 bollywoodbluray website I noticed the following - I used only YRF, Eros, Big Home and UTV for analysis

India: Of course things will be cheapest here(forex conv factor)
Yash Raj Films - Between Rs 599-700
Big Home Video - Rs 649-900
Eros - Rs 949 - 1499 - Most expensive ones
UTV - Rs 999 - 1499 Similar to Eros
Note:
YRF most competitive and great prices
Big Home - Next to Yash Raj and still good price
EROS and UTV too high

USA:
Yash Raj Films - Between $22.99 - 23.99
Big Home Video - Between $23.99 - 24.99
Eros - Between $23.99 - 24.99
UTV - Between $24.99 - 25.99
Note:
YRF most competitive but not by much
Discs from all houses nearly simialr price range

UK
Yash Raj Films - Between £12.99 - 15.99 (£15.99 for most)
Big Home Video - Between £15.99 - 17.99
Eros - Between £16.99 - 18.99
UTV - Between £17.99 - 18.99
Note:
YRF is slightly low priced compared to others
Rest are in the same price range

If you look closely,
1. YRF is cheapest in India and in many case less by 50% but they are very close to others in UK and USA.
2. Some Eros/UTV discs in India are more expensive than the same in US or UK

My point here is if all bollywood blu rays are authored from the same location (I tend to think that way). the productions costs should be the same. While YRF is selling their discs as fantastic price in India but their overseas prices are nearly same as the rest.
It could be that YRF is promoting Blu ray in India and their competitive prices are to ensure Blu ray is welcome in most households and the format popularity increases - if this is true then it is a very good strategy from YRF and kudos to them. Shame that Eros and other haven't done that yet.

On the other hand I would like to see the price of Bollywood Blu rays going down in UK and US as well. Most of the hollywood blu rays (except the just released ones) can be had in the UK for £6-£10 and I will be happy if Indian blu ray prices can be reduced as well. Yash raj has shown that it can be done in India (of course they are still making a profit after selling discs at Rs 599 in India).

If a disc can be produced at X amount, each production house can stil make a profit and give some discount to the consumer to make the format popular and more people will start buying.

I go to India every year and my friends or family members visit me 2-3 times a year. I am currently buying bolly blus from India as they are very cheap, but at some point I would like to contribute to the economy of the place where I am living (Uk) by buying it from people who are selling in the UK.

I don't expect the blus in UK to be of similar price as in India cosidering the forex rate but the difference should not be that high.

Some Eros/UTV/Excel discs are currenlty cheaper to buy in UK. If that can be explained, I assume YRF can reduce their prices in UK and still keep it higher than India and make a good profit.

Anil,

Do you mind sharing your thoughts on how the price strategies are made and what can we see in future with the format gaining populairty amongst Indian consumers in and outside India?
