Default hdmi set up..

i was wondering how you guys are setting up your systems. ive been running hdmi cables from my componets to my tv. ive got directv going to it directly, and the sound coming out of my tv. the xbox is going to the tv as well, then the extension going to my receiver. sound coming out of the tv and surround as well. the ps3 hdmi to the tv..and optical going to the receiver.

what im wondering if it would be a easier..or better set up if i ran it all to the receiver..then one OUT cable to the tv?! ive always liked the sound of the blu's and games coming out of my speakers...tv can come out of the tv. Thx.

YES!!!

My recommended setup would be all HDMI cables going to an HDMI capable receiver then a single HDMI cable to the TV.

When you use the digital output from your TV, you lose 5.1. You'll only get 2.0, unless it is an OTA HD channel.

I agree! Run all the HDMI cables into an HDMI receiver then run one HDMI cable to the TV. When choosing the input then you'd just do it through your receiver rather than the TV.

I asked this almost exact question in another area of the forum, but didn't get too many answers; I am set up the way everyone is suggesting here -- that is, my Panasonic Blu-ray player is going HDMI OUT for audio AND video for DVD AND Blu-ray (no other connections from the player) to my Onkyo 605's HDMI IN 1...from there, a second HDMI cable is going from the 605's HDMI OUT to my Sony SXRD's HDMI IN (Video 6 HDMI terminal). That's it -- no analog or multichannel connections are being made.

Should this setup pass both upconverted 1080p DVD video AND 1080p native Blu-ray video from my Panasonic, WHILE sending all surround codecs over one HDMI cable? Is there any chance of any resolution being "lost" or "clipped" by not sending the video from the player directly to my display? Will the 605 "clip" something by having the HDMI video go through it?

Question

I have the receiver listed below, and it has HDMI inputs, but I believe they are 1080i. I have a 1080p TV, so I have the PS3 hooked up to the TV through the HDMI, and the optical hooked up to the receicer. Do you guys think that this is the way I should have it set up? Also, wouldn't you get a better picture being processed through the TV that's made specially for video, where as a receiver that specialized for audio? I paid way to much for this receiver, do you guys know if it can be updated to 1080p? And does anybody know what settings should be checked off in the PS3's audio setting?

You choose your name on this site to be TechPro and then ask a question like this? Seriously?????

As has been stated before, run all of your equipment to your receiver and then one HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV/Monitor.

Peace

Run your HDMI connections through your receiver. Even though it is HDMI 1.1, it will still pass a 1080p signal without a problem. I'm assuming this receiver will accept PCM audio over HDMI, though I can't confirm. If so, make sure your PS3 is set to output PCM, not bitstream.

Is the optical cable able to output PCM as well?

I bought another hdmi cable, and it did accept the PCM signal, but when I choose automaic display settings it showed up as 1080p, but when I saved, it showed as 1080i.

Is their anyway around this, or should I go back to the optical cable? Is their any kind of adapter that can be plugged into the back of the ps3 hdmi to output two hdmi's, one to the receiver, and the other to the tv?
