Default Help Finding The Right Receiver To Suit My Needs

I am going to be finally adding a sound system to my big screen, and to be fully honest, do not know too much about the newer home audio technologies. That said, i am looking for receiver that can handle 7.1 speaker setup that would have nothing more powerful than say Polk Monitor 70's. I would like it to have the option to add an amp down the road, and want it to be able to give me the full audio experience that bd's offer. If there is anything else i should be considering when choosing a receiver, i would love to hear about that as well. As for budget, i would prefer to keep it under $500.

At your price I usually recommend the Marantz SR5003 from accessories4less.com. It's a refurbished model, but people buy them all the time with no problems. They usually sell for about $450. However, they've been sold out of them for the past week or so. They do have the SR5004, but it's $599. Is your budget rock solid, or can it give at all?

well on accessories4less.com, they have marantz receivers there with a 1 yr factory warranty that would have everything you looking for and would be more then adequate to drive your M70s. They are Factory Refurbs, but like I said have a 1 yr warranty, and everyone on here that has got one loves it.

Otherwise look for these in your price range

Yamaha 765
Yamaha 863
Sony 2400ES
Onkyo 707
Pioneer Elite VSX-21

Probably the only ones below $500 will be the Yamaha's and maybe the Onkyo.

Hope that helps, Good luck.

Also look at the Harman Kardon HK AVR 254 & Harman Kardon HK AVR 354, they meet all your criteria. They are refurbs that come direct from the factory, complete with the original accessories and the original( 1 yr ) factory warranty.

+1 on the HK AVR 354 - I have it and am VERY pleased. I have heard many Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, and PIoneer Elite, and chose the HK.
