I suspect nothing will come of this, but clearly Vista and especially Vista 64 were not ready for prime time when they hit the streets and arguably still aren't.

Vista 32 is fairly decent now, but this is a year later.

The whole world should know by now you NEVER, EVER buy a new MS OS until it's been out on the streets for at least a good six months, and I'm being generous with that figure.

Vista is horrorable even on Pcs that came with it. If you look most people

went back to xp because of it. My stupid brother bought one with vista and has

had nothing but trouble.

Meh, I have it on my office laptop and home PCs. Have had zero problems with it. Both were upgrades to Vista from XP, not clean installs.

Honestly, I can't understand why people think it's such a horrible OS. Seems like the natural evolution from XP to me.

They done the same thing with the Xbox 360. It seems to be M$'s m.o. to rush out product before it's ready.

Is is still evolution when it's obviously an attempted ripoff of OSX?

The point being, every company rips off another companies designs if they like it enough.

The point is, all these companies copy each other. Microsoft is no more guilty than Apple. They've just been more successful at creating their monopoly, which Apple would like to create as well.

In fact, I find the hypocrisy out there bashing Microsoft for creating their monopoly, when others have created theirs without much fanfare. Google owns the web, yet no one is up in arms about them. And I find it even more ironic that Google was the first to oppose the Microsoft bid for Yahoo!. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

And Apple has such a monopoly on mp3 players, yet no one is up in arms about them either. What if people don't want to buy an iPod but find that there aren't that many peripherals that work with their mp3 player since it's not an iPod? Hmm, sounds familiar.

How about Intel? They pretty much own the desktop CPU market. Where's the backlash about them? Cisco? Their gear runs such a great percentage of the internet. What about them?

It may sound like I'm a Microsoft fanboi, but far from it. I don't own an XBox. I don't use all their products. But I find it interesting that they've become the focus of many people's hate even though they are no more guilty than other companies are in creating their own monopolies and stifling competition.

monopolies suck. end of story. from what i can tell there really is no benefit to having one...of course aside from the fact that the big suits get more money.

xp works great, ive had really no major problems with it. The only part i liked about vista was the black schemed taskbar...which i have modded my xp to have

MY new Dell XPS 420 has Vista. I love the look and feel of it, when it isn't crashing. I have probably one major crash per day. Some days multiple. Don't even think about plugging in an older peripheral, it will not work and will casuse the OS to crash and burn HARD. When it is fixed to become stable it will be okay. XP for me was rock solid on several computer. One went at least a year or two without any kind of crash, none, and that was with constant usage. Vista has a long way to go to become that stable. It was at least a year too soon to release, if not 2 years. Too much pressure from, not sure where, but companies aren't begging for it, they want something stable and manageable. I hope they can patch it to be what it should be within this year.

Ive been running Vista on my one PC since launch and its been fine. I still use XP as well though, but I dont see what all the complaining is about. Hell, When XP came out, everyone was complaining then, now everyone is saying how XP is great! lol.

most of the bugs are now worked out of xp so it pretty much runs flawlessly. vista will be a problem for probably another year.

I hate to interrupt the discussion about how Microsoft deserves to be sued for releasing Vista before it was ready, but...

That is not what this lawsuit is about. This lawsuit is about Microsoft certifying underpowered computers as "Vista ready", causing people to buy these computers to run Vista and finding they don't have the muscle to do so.

Bizarre, oh well, I know my situation isn't the same as others, but the only crashes I have are related to older programs that UAC doesn't play nice with, or the HAL changes adversely affected...

Of course, I also remember the same situation being true when I upgraded to XP when it launched [and also 95 when it launched], might jsut be because I'm an enthusiast who has fairly current hardware.

from the article:

Quote:
Neither of the two people who filed the original lawsuit participated in a program Microsoft devised to help people who bought new computers before Vista's launch upgrade later to the new operating system, but they argued nonetheless that people who bought "Vista Capable" computers were harmed because they could only run a basic version of Vista.
uh, yeah this suit seems like a winner.

who puts the "vista capable" sticker on the machines? I would think the liability would lie more with HP or the vendor rather than MS.

Only in America!
