Default PS3 Optimal Video Settings

I am new to the board so I have not had time to really get into all of the posts but I was very curious about one thing and actually have a question about watching standard DVDs on the PS3.

My first observation is that standard DVDs don't look as good on my PS3 and 1080i HDTV as they do on my regular DVD player using the HDMI cable. I tried all different types of settings using the DVD Upscaler and I don't see any difference when I A/B certain DVDs. Perhaps I am not setting it properly or is it just that the PS3 does not play a DVD as well as a standalone DVD player. How are most of you setting up your PS3 to play back standard def DVDs? I do have the most current up to date version by the way on my PS3. I have Full selected as my DVD Upscale option and I don't have any of the noise reduction things turned on and I am running my PS3 into my HDTV via HDMI cable by the way.
