Default blu-ray PS3 optimal settings

i have a SHARP aquos, 42' 1080p, with HDMI hooked up through my PS3...

yet for some reason i still feel like i could be getting better sound and picture quality...

i'm on the PSN and looking at the blu-ray settings, and realizing i don't know what a lot of this means...

if anyone has any ideas on which settings to adjust, and what to adjust them to, i'd greatly appreciate it...

thanks...

whats the model of your TV?

I find with the extra settings and such, its almost always better to leave them turned off.

although very specific, that last thread was for 1080i.
i'm not sure if that makes a difference in the settings.

I don't think it being in 1080i should make a difference in how it looks. The lighting, your setup, and source will though.

use Y/Pb/Pr output (BD/DVD options)

turn on super-white (Display options).

also turn on the RGB full setting for those times that it must switch over to RGB (I think it has to for games)

No, no, this isn't the cable we're talking about here, it's the color scheme of the video signal being sent out - RGB or Y/Pb/Pr. It should have an option in the PS3 Settings between Auto, RGB, or Y/Pb/Pr. Make it either Auto or Y/Pb/Pr.

Having Rgb on causes black crush on my set which lessons the detail I recommend leaving it off.Unless your set supports this feature. Also look into getting it calibrated.

I've always wondered about some of these. I have my PS3 set to auto for Y/Pb/Pr or RGB, and IIRC RGB is set to full, but super white is currently off, because I couldn't find anything on my tv's manual that said it accepts super white, so I was afraid of damaging it. When the PS3 is set to auto, how does it output the signal? And how can I find out the best settings for my tv, and whether or not it accepts super white? Thanks!

I don't think you'll damage it. I have it on on my 27" Samsung Slimfit HDTV...

I'll turn it on. Hopefully no damage to the plasma...I wish more manufacturers printed these types of specs on the manuals, even if it's a no, print "super white...no". Oh well.

Driver_King, I have my PS3 set to auto. Does the PS3 select the best color scheme for sure? How does it know to do this? My picture looks good to me right now, and the PS3 is hooked directly to my tv via HDMI, so I expect the PS3 to be able to choose the best settings under "auto", but I plan to add an onkyo sr-606 this xmas and run the PS3 to the 606 via HDMI, then out to the tv via HDMI again - will that affect how the PS3 makes its choices? I've been trying to read as much as I can on the 606, but I still don't know if it does any signal processing on the video from HDMI in to HDMI out, or if it simply passes it through but captures the audio.
