Default Target has no more HD-DVD standalones online either

I saw this posted over at AVS a few minutes ago and now the thread "mysteriously" disappeared. It looks as if Target no longer is selling HD-DVD standalones online either, just the 360 add-on. I'm pretty sure they had them there before. If you can find one on their site, please let me know

Oh what will the AVS red-boys say now?

The funniest thing is that if you search for HD-DVD, the Sony BDP-300 Blu-Ray player shows up

Still there: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=886099

One poster claims no HD DVD players at Costco since yesterday, as well. Don't know if it means a thing, but it is curious.

im not suprised at all. one poster in avs was right, toshiba has been playing major hardball with retialers, saying things like, "if you don't carry hd dvd, we won't let you sell our tvs" looks like some retailers have had enough. im not suprised.

Looks like they're still having trouble keeping the 300 in stock.

its not that intersting people. only 190k hd dvd standalones have been sold. why wouldn't retailers stop carrying them, on top of the fact that software sales are even worse than hardware. The HD market could be huge $ this xmas retailers want the customer to not be afraid to jump in and that means getting rid of hd dvd.

You know, maybe they sold their stock but will be getting some of the 3rd gen players. I find this hard to believe, as I figure that if they were going to carry the 3rd gen players they would continue carrying the 2nd gen players. Who knows at this point, but I hope the thoughts of other people on this thread are true!

I just want to put in my .02. Our local Sam's has has had an HD DVD player since last year (an RCA model) and out of 8, has sold 4. They did start carrying HD DVD's but did not restock. Now they are carrying the S301 Sony and have sold 3 out of 10 in 3 weeks and just this past week, are now carrying Blu movies, but still NO HD DVD's. They reduced the price 3 months ago to $286 on the RCA player, but have only sold 1 since they did.

they only sold refirbished ones online anyways, so its not like the 3rd gen. ones would be relevent to them immediatley. there is no reason why they wouldn't continue with the 2nd gen hd dvd players well through oct. they dropped hd dvd players competely its not too hard to believe. software will be next. i bet they keep software through xmas though.

Yes, it is interesting. It's kind of "here, in your face Toshiba -- how do you like THESE apples". Maybe Toshiba did something to REALLY piss them off.
