Default PS2 - Would a Component Cable Add Improvement?

My regular Yellow, White, and Red cable for my PS2 is pretty much falling apart. I have a 720p/1080i set up. My HDTV doesn't have an HDMI on it, so it's a component set up, would a component show improvement in PQ on my set up? Or would it still be 480p/i?

If you're looking to replace the cable anyway I would definitely go with the component. As I understand it, it should be an improvement over the standard composite yellow cable in VQ.

yes it will! long ago on a dvd player and sdtv, i switched back and forth from the yellow video cable, s-video and component to see the difference in video. and each showed a slight improvement of the other. it wont be hd, but there will be an improvement

edit: it will still be 480i/p because that depends on the source. the ps2 and consoles of that gen, are not hd and they dont upscale. some games do support progressive scan and the ps2 games that do, will say so on the back cover.

Definitely get the component. I always recommend using the highest type of cable you can for all your devices.

Yeah I wouldn't use the normal RCA unless you have no other option. If you have the means to get the component definitely go ahead and do it.
