Default Yellow Submarine Remake (Likely Sunk)

The new Yellow Submarine will reportedly sail on to the sun, till it finds the sea green, in summer 2012.

Variety adds that the deal "has been months in the making with armies of lawyers, and sources said that rights will encompass the future prospects of a Broadway stage musical like Disney accomplished with The Lion King, a Cirque du Soleil stage production ("Love," a production based on Beatles tunes, has been running for two years at The Mirage) and merchandise."

I guess this means that a Yellow Submarine Blu will be coming.

Yeah... at least there's that.

I'm usually not opposed to remakes that serve only to modernize a story, but this was a vehicle for the Beatles... how can you remake something as ingrained as that?

Also, who owns the songs. Beatles, Michael Jackson airs, and which of them. If it was MJ, then I cannot see this happening soon.

As for the remake, why not. Tripped out to the first one and would not mind seeing if I can sit through it stone cold sober.

Oh, and btw, the Chief Meanie doesn't have "dog" ears, he has Evil Mickey Mouse ears....Or maybe he doesn't, now that Disney bought Zemeckis.

Except, perhaps, that we won't get the obscure "new" songs from the original movie (since they're not "iconic" Beatles enough that anyone remembers "Hey Bulldog" or "Only a Northern Song"), and Bobbo will probably just substitute a few of the hummable default favorites in trying to turn the animation into "Beatles RockBand: the Movie".
(Ie., ten bucks says we get "It's underwater, so let's use 'Octopus's Garden'" in place of "All Together Now".)

Does anyone care what Zemeckis does with his PS2 quality animation? Seriously his films suck now.

I am no fan of the Beatles and even I think this is a stupid idea. Zemeckis is but a shadow of his former self. The man hasn't directed a movie with any soul since Cast Away almost 10 years ago.

You're kidding yourself if you think even current generation gaming platforms could match the animation in his recent films.

Not that his tactic of forcing motion capture performances is a good thing. These motion capture films could just as easily feature live action performances with CG effects. And if you're styling Scrooge so carefully after Jim Carey and using his vocal AND physical performance, why not just allow the man to physically perform. I mean, the man is capable of being practically animated himself.

But maybe the surreal nature of Yellow Submarine will have something to gain by the animated design. I'll keep an open mind until I see it I guess.

After watching Avatar it really doesn't matter. His stuff looks like crap. And I still think Uncharted 2 not only looks better, but IS better than anything Zemeckis has done with Mo-Cap.

Yeah!--After playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance, you realize that "Beowulf" looked like PS3 game mocap, not PS2!

That's pretty much what we thought when Carrey and Colin Firth are standing around talking in the office scene--
Wow, with Mocap, it looks like he really DID walk to the other side of the room!

Agree I think he should at least do another Romancing The Stone part III than wasting it on (Yellow Submarine. )

How can one NOT like the Beatles? The living Beatles (and the widows of) SHOULD NOT let this movie get made. I DO NOT wan't Yellow Submarine looking like The Polar Express!

At the moment, that pretty much IS the reason--
A mass 40th-anniversary marketing of the Sub, now that the retired Sir Paul and Mrs. Harrison are a little less overprotective of Beatles marketing from here on in, with more royalties and the prospect of no reunion, which is how we also got the Rock Band game at the same time...Oh, they did mention we're also getting the stage musical?

Zemeckis only seemed to be hired as the most immediate and current-flavor Guy Who Could Do Animated Stuff on demand, since you couldn't go knock on Disney/Pixar's door, and Dreamworks wasn't that mercenary...
Don't shoot the piano player, he's only doing what he's paid for, and he only thinks he's creative.

When did he retire? I saw him here in Dallas in August and he said he was not retiring and this would not be the last concert.....maybe he changed his mind?

Well, okay, not retiring, just relaxing a bit on his guarding of the image and song rights for the estate, since there might not be too many more concerts ten or twelve years down the road.

The point is, yes, Z-meister IS an incompetent boob (and the Jeremy Hillary kind), but don't blame this one on him, when there are larger and more evil world-domination plans afoot.
