Arrow First Photo and Video from Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol

Click on the pic to head over for some video of the movie and a high res of the pic.

Quote:
DISNEY’S A CHRISTMAS CAROL, a multi-sensory thrill ride re-envisioned by Academy
Award®-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, captures the fantastical essence of the classic Dickens tale in a groundbreaking 3D motion picture event. Ebenezer Scrooge (JIM CARREY) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (GARY OLDMAN) and his cheery nephew (COLIN FIRTH). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late.

The movie opens nationwide November 6, 2009.
This will be a fun movie to take the kids to this Christmas.

MoCap still looks like a PS3 cutscene, and George C. Scott was still better.

(Unless you want to creep 'em out with the spooky B/W Alastair Sim version.)

The clip looked really cool.

I'm a huge fan of Jim Carrey and I have enjoyed what Zemeckis has been doing with motion capture / CG. (I liked Beowulf a lot)

Definitely will be seeing this

No, it looks like it came straight out of a video game. Especially the ghost. Quite a stiff one, I must say.

I think it looks even worse than a lot of video game cutscenes nowadays - definitely worse than beowulf and polar express IMO.

maybe too many people found the other style too creepy so they are scaling the realistic look back a bit in this one

I am always there for a Christmas Carol story, will see it and wait to pass judgement after I see it to comment on how good or bad it might actualy be. I don't have the super powers of other of knowing in advance what is good or bad

I've not seen the trailers, but Zemeckis should go do e-motion capture for the facial performances.

Thanks for agreeing with me. I thought it was far, far worse than The Polar Express and Beowulf. I was pretty taken back when I saw the clip.

Hey...I didn't know the Ghostbusters game was coming out in theaters

I have to agree that it doesn't look very good, I don't understand doing CG versions that look exactly the same as their human counterparts...didn't like it in Beowulf, don't like it here.

Okay--I know, I KNOW every single kid on the Net reposts it every time the discussion to turns to Robert Zemeckis renouncing the flesh-and-blood world, and/or thinking that he's discovered the Philosopher's Secret of Animation just because he bought the first MoCap company that came out of the gate...

But I don't care--FMM, you just can't repost that rebellious CalArts Film enough times:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA7V6fwzJtI
(Stick it to da Z-man, Cal-dudes...And when you've got Disney's Glen Keane and James Baxter joining in on the sarcasm, it's all good. )

The Polar Express IMAX stereographic 3D is the best I've seen to date. I didn't get a chance to see Beowulf in stereographic, but I've seen My Bloody Valentine stereographic 3D, Monsters sv. Aliens stereographic 3D, and The Polar Express Stereoscopy versions and they weren't even close.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing this. Too bad these 3D movies are charging a premium at the theater. I can't wait to have a 3D solution for the home.
