Default Philips bdp9000 facelift.

The Philips BDP9000 Blu-ray player will be available for $1,000 in the third quarter of 2006, according to the company. The player had been glimpsed at January's Consumer Electronics Show, but the announcement at the company's Holidays in June event was the first official confirmation of the player's price and availability, both of which are right in line with competing models from Sony and Panasonic. Detailed specs and features weren't available, but the BDP9000 has the basics covered--1080p output via HDMI, backward-compatible with DVDs, and upgradable firmware. One notable change was the look of the player: originally shown in a somewhat exotic silver/chrome housing, Philips has opted for a more conservative black look (the lavender tinge of the accompanying photo is a result of the unusual lighting at the Philips event).

heres the old one:
I think the new one looks more modern (that circular "blu ray" thingee sucked)

So, wheres the next gen HDDVD players at?

So many choices for blu-ray players. Hopefully customers will gobble these up and get BD a good basis in the home in order to gain an advantage over HD-DVD.

I wouldn't say all of their stuff is crappy... Their new LCD's and Plasmas don't look that bad at all... Although their DVD players and audio equipment is crap. I'm just trying to figure out how companies like Philips feel like they can price their products in the same price bracket as some of the "big dogs".

philips has also been quite good at mini hifi audio systems. Some really good values out there in that segment.

In my case, they overcharge with highway robbery on their flat TVs.

Their 42 inch ambilight LCD TVs are highway robbery following the likes of the Panasonic Viera and Sharp Aquos.

When you come visit an electronics store here in the Philippines, you will get what I mean.

ambi light is the stupidest thing under the sun. I can't stand it gimmicky nature. The other thing about phillips is reliability in my experience is terrible. i like the sammy's way way way more.
