Default Philips BDP9000

I use a PS3 now but I thought I would update the firmware for this player and use it for some sd titles so I don't wear out my PS3 and when I want it to be quieter for sd .... and guess what? The firmware on the philips website hasn't been updated since early last year! This is the same as an early Samsung model. Is there a Sammy firmware available that I can use instead? Or has Philips and Samsung just stopped supporting this early player?

Thank the gods I have a PS3!... I figured out another way to turn your PS3 into a standalone btw ... you put a parental lock on it so that it won't play any PS3 software ... so then it's just like a standalone

I doubt they dropped any support for it. I thought firmware updates are meant to fix bugs and problems, so if there isn't one recently I'd have to guess that's a good thing.
I have a bdp7200 since christmas and it has performed perfectly. It doesn't do any of the new audio codecs but the picture is gorgeous. And yours is a better model (I think) and all reviews all seem very positive. So I wouldn't worry about it.

The title says BDP 9000,.......the 9000 came first and is a 1.0 profile player. The 7200 came AFTER the 9000.

BS,....they won't even talk to you about it. They promise to update and don't,....they promise to call back and don't. This player will NOT play any movie released in the last 4 months,....nothing with BD Live on it,....or the updated encryption. The last Phillips update is 4/16/2008.

There is one solution,...the Samsung BD-P1000 uses the same chipset,....and other than cosmetics,....is the same player. The December firmware (ver1.9) will load on the BDP 9000,...and plays the newer movies just fine. It just says "Samsung" on the start-up screen now instead of "Phillips".

From the Samsung firmware links on this forum,...or this link.

http://pages.samsung.com/us/bluraysupport/support.html

Choose the BD-P1000 model download link,....follow the instructions on the page on how to burn an update disc. Nero Burning Rom works best,....or any burner that will burn an image file (iso). Update disc MUST be burned as an ISO (disk image) for the update to work. Insert in player and follow instructions. Takes about 10 - 15 minutes,....do not interrupt. When done the tray will open,...remove disc,...shut player off,....turn back on and you should be good to go.
