Default Ip Man Thread

I just watched this movie and all I can say is wow...some of the coolest fight scenes I've seen in a long time. Donnie Yen is the man in this movie. I imported the Hong Kong version from YesAsia.com and I have no regrets because this movie is well worth it.

Not sure how many people have purchased this movie but if you are looking for a good martial arts movie this is it.

Anyone else pick up this movie? Thoughts?

I saw it on DVD, an amazing martial arts movie with a solid plot. The DVD transfer was horrible but supposedly the Blu-Ray looks stunning.

I think this film use a high speed camera that able to capture donnie yen fast punch, when Jet Li at his prime, no camera at that time can able to capture fast speed of jet li punch. Donnie Yen is a great martia art but he is no match when Jet li at his prime. Suprise IP man beat Red Cliff for the HK best film.

IP is making sequel that bruce lee with be a chracter, not sure who is cast it.

Most Chinese martial film is based on some soft of his fact or a real character.

I disagree. I think Donnie Yen could kick Jet Li's ass in their prime. Jet may be a little faster, but I think Donnie is stronger and more versatile. But the truth is noone knows for sure who is better. It's just all speculation in the end. It's cool to think about it though. So I give the edge to Donnie Yen, for style and edginess.

Ip Man: Great movie, incredible fight scenes.

I got it for $33 US which when I looked on Best Buy they were charging nearly $60

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....p=1&id=1954262

Hong Kong version has:

PQ is pretty good 4.5/5 (some grain, but most likely intentional)
AQ is a solid 4.5/5 (Cantonese LPCM 7.1, Cantonese DTS-HDMA 7.1, Cantonese Dolby TrueHD 7.1, Mandarin DTS-HDMA 7.1)

There are English, Traditional Chinese subtitles

From what I've read, the Hong Kong version is the one to buy.

I always like to give Li the benefit of the doubt in those debates. He just has so much training and has won martial arts championships (Granted he did non-combat events as far as I know but still impressive how many he won) that it just makes me feel in an actual fight he is beyond others that might make it look better on film but not be as well trained. Not that actors like Yen and Chan don't have a lot of training too but they just don't have the same level of training Li had (Also much different methods like Chan coming from the Chinese Opera background) and were not involved in martial arts championships and stuff like that.

Lets get some fact

Donnie Yen might be more suitable for street fight
Jet Li is more on professional level

Jet still holds the record for most consecutive wins at the All China Games, that is no easy task and it's the reason China sent him abroad to represent there country. Overall Skill level it's not even close. He was called a Prodigy for a reason.

Everone also forgets that Donnie Yen started relatively late when it came to martial arts. He was in his early teens. Jet Li started when he was around 9, if not sooner. It makes it very difficult to compare the two. All I know is both are great and there's a reason why Jet Li specifically asked for Donnie Yen to be part of Hero. So there's definitely a mutual respect there.

As for Ip Man 2, last I read Bruce Lee will not be a character in the sequel. There was some legal issue with his family so they excluded him. No big deal since he was only meant to be a cameo toward the end of the sequel. There is talk that Bruce Lee may be a supporting character in Ip Man 3.

Dunno yet. All I know is that Sammo Hung will portray the main antagonist in part two.

The UK blu-ray release of Ip Man is arriving on the 26:th of October. I've seen it on pre-order for less than 12 GBP (or 19.5 USD).

We'll have to wait and see if it's region free.
