UPDATE: MARCH 10TH, 2010

WHAT WOULD THE KATHRYN BIGELOW'S SPIDEY WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE

Didn't know about that.

Here is more:

Quote:
We just learned that Kathryn Bigelow passed on the chance to direct the 2012 Spider-Man reboot. What the would The Hurt Locker director's take on Peter Parker have looked like? We're picturing tense bomb-defusing scenes. And surfer slang, brah!

As The L.A. Times reported yesterday, the Best Director-winning Bigelow turned down the new, gritty Spider-Man flick, which was eventually taken up by (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb.

What would a Bigelow-helmed Spider-Man look like. Well, if we use her past films as a template, it would be a cinematic masterpiece. Dream with us...

Script for SPIDER-MAN: NOBODY RIDES FOR FREE

Directed by KATHRYN BIGELOW

CAST
Logan Lerman as PETER PARKER/SPIDER-MAN
Taylor Lautner as MATT "FLASH" THOMPSON
Keanu Reeves as MICHAEL MORBIUS/MORBIUS THE LIVING VAMPIRE
Ralph Fiennes as DOCTOR OTTO OCTAVIUS/DR. SQUID
Jeremy Renner as NITRO, THE LIVING BOMB
Jenette Goldstein as AUNT MAY
Gary Busey as UNCLE BEN
Soundtrack by TANGERINE DREAM

SYNOPSIS
It is December 31, 1999. Peter Parker is the Amazing Spider-Man, a brave but reckless superhero. Parker feels responsible for the death of his Uncle Ben, who died in a bank robbery. Spiderman's devil-may-care attitude has caused a great deal of property damage, leading his best friend Matt "Flash" Thompson - the only person to know Peter's secret - to become an FBI informant. Flash is Midtown High's star quarterback with a NCAA offer to play at Ohio State, but Flash will lose his scholarship if he does not cooperate with FBI Agent Michael Morbius.

Unbeknownst to Flash, Morbius is a centuries-old vampire from the antebellum South. His actually goal is to turn Parker into an unkillable Spider-Vampire who will quash the insurgency in Iraq. Meanwhile, cyberpunk criminal Dr. Otto Octavius (a.k.a. "Dr. Squid") has been killing prostitutes and selling VR snuff discs to high-schoolers. Dr. Squid is an ex-submarine captain who runs his operation from a submersible hidden in the East River.

SCENE #1:

[PETER and UNCLE BEN are waiting in line at a bank. UNCLE BEN is reading a newspaper.

UNCLE BEN: Hahaha! This Calvin and Hobbes is funny! Peter, it's time for lunch!

UPDATE:

The Twitter Campaign to Put Donald Glover in Marc Webb’s SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Quote:
Last week, we reported about five actors rumored to be on the shortlist to play Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot. The website io9 ran an editorial about why they didn’t want yet another white guy superhero–a sentiment I couldn’t agree with more. The people in the comments section of the editorial came up with a sixth name that should be on the list: Donald Glover (Community, Mystery Team). Glover is charismatic, funny, and age-appropriate for the role. He’s also a huge fan of the character. In response, the actor/writer/comedian began a Twitter campaign for the chance to audition for the role. Tonight #donald4spiderman became the third-highest trending topic on Twitter. The Facebook campaign has also amassed over 3,000 fans and climbing.

For more of my thoughts on why casting Glover would make the Spider-Man reboot worth it.

I’ve had trouble finding a single person who thinks that Sony’s decision to reboot Spider-Man was a good idea. We’ve heard “Oh, it will be gritty and contemporary” this time, as if the Raimi Spider-Man movies were mindless action films. To cast Glover or any actor who challenges the notion of what Spider-Man has been or can be would provide a reason for this reboot’s existence, elevating it from the cynical cashgrab it currently is.

We ran an editorial last year suggesting that Will Smith would make a good Captain America. The comments section exploded in controversy, even though there was at least some basis in the comics for a black Captain America. I don’t know if fans would accept a non-white Spider-Man, but I don’t really care. It’s not an affirmative-action move. It’s asking the question: is there anything inherently white about Spider-Man’s story? Yes, Stan Lee wrote Peter Parker as a white character, but is there anything about that character’s story that wouldn’t work for a man of any non-white ethnicity?

Even Glover says he shouldn’t be given the part outright, but I agree that he deserves the chance to at least audition. I know studios are scared to do anything risky when it comes to an $80 million movie, but I’m willing to bet there’s going to be a lack of enthusiasm for this reboot if people don’t see anything fresh about it. Casting a young, talented non-white actor for Spider-Man would get people talking about what is currently a movie with no reason to exist.

Source.

What do you think?

We reported a few weeks ago that Columbia Pictures was narrowing down its list of contenders to play Peter Parker in a new superhero reboot and, according to a new story, they have made their final choice. Bleeding Cool is reporting that Jamie Bell has been set to star in the new Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.

Bell was one of the five actors mentioned in our earlier report, but if this new story ends up being true, it seems he has beat out the other contenders Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Andrew Garfield and Josh Hutcherson. The site reported that they have, "received repeated reports" that Bell had been chosen to play Peter Parker.

The report hasn't been confirmed by the studio as of yet, but we'll be sure to keep you posted on any new updates regarding this breaking story as soon as we have more information.

I kind of hope they get new leads. I've never liked Kirsten Dunst, and Tobey Maguire hasn't grown too favorably on me over the course of the three films.

these films would be better if they were like batman. Not made for little kids. I still wish they would have made Doc Oc more evil than the little wuss he was in the 2nd one. He is my fav spiderman villan

If you ask me Spider-man 3 would have been saved if they made it two films shot at the same time and released 4-6 months between each other.

They crammed way to much in that one movie and lost what made SM1 and 2 successful. IMO they should have had all Sandman in 3, with the teasers and intro of Venom for the 4th I don't think it would have received the bashing it did. Venom is way to big of a character to get the shaft like he did with hardly any screen time.

Here's to hoping they learn from their mistakes.

Spiderman has always been more kid-friendly than Batman ever was in the comics. I think it'd be a bad move to do it any differently. My kid loves Spiderman and is part of what makes this series special for me. After all, they're not so hot.

a longer, darker spiderman would be awesome (like batman begins), but I'm still super happy with what they've done, even though venom did get the shaft

I agree. And that is not something I am usually a fan of (switching actors mid-series), but Kirsten is a total disaster and Tobey's head is too big to fit into the Spidey costume now.

Spider-Man 3-4 was a possibility but never happened.

So many plot strands piled up that at one point, the story broke into two films that might have been made back-to-back as parts 3 and 4 — a game plan that collapsed when nobody could find a satisfying intermediate climax.

I believe Sam Rami would have been a lot happier if they would have let him just do the film about Sandman as well. The more times I watch that film I believe he was trying to make it where they don't ask him to come back to do number 4. (Come on, the dancing, the giving the shaft to Venom. I mean it's no secret he didn't like having to include Venom in 3, but to kill off the most popular villian in Marvel history was a bit ridiculous)

Man I read the subject and I for some reason read Superman instead of Spiderman and I was thinking, "I guess Singer did neglect 3 and 4 so it kinda would be 4 & 5", and then when I read Tobey McGuire and Sam Raimi I was thinking, "what the ???" Yeah, I feel like an idiot.

I thought Toffer Grace was good when he was getting all nasty and saying how he hates peter and whatnot. But, in the comics Eddie Brock was always big and jacked; it added a lot to the contrast in characters because peter was always on the smaller side.

If they brought in carnage they would have to go rated "r" with some serious slaughter on his part to show how truly maniacle he is; also how grave of a threat he is.

I guess nobody else has seen the interviews where Sam Rami, Tobey Mcguire & Kirsten Dunst all said they were finished with Spiderman? All three of them said they would not be returning for a fourth movie.

Absolutely - this could be a good tie-in for a re-cast for those calling for it. Have Brad Pitt or someone play the new Dark-Spidey, with Carnage ripping babies heads off and raping and pillaging the city.

Also - completely uncalled for to not give Venom him own stand-alone movie, much less to cast him as topher gayce and kill him off.

Fantastic! All I want to see is a well written story for Spider-Man. One that makes you say----> or "This is the BEST superhero movie ever!" Seriously, the third one made me sad with all the emo and dancing....urgh!

I want a cameo from the 5th movie villain in the 4th movie. Thats all I ask. And maybe another Marvel superhero cameo somewhere in there.

They've always gone back and forth on it. One day Tobey would say he's not doing it, another day he'll say "if the script is good".

And if all three don't come back, so what? The movies will be made anyway.
