Review: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-M...y-Review/8269/

I'm very confused here. What the hell is Anchor Bay/Starz thinking? With all of the titles in their collection that they could bring onto BD, they pick this one?

I'm a fan of the movie, but even the DVD looked like garbage. And no extras? The DVD had 2 audio commentaries and 4 featurettes. Why drop those?

I just don't understand this decision. They're taking an obscure movie that looks and sounds mediocre, slapping it on a BD, and dropping all extras. Who's the audience for this disc?

I was thinking this would at least be a bit of an upgrade for my DVD. Apparently not. Color me disappointed.

I thought this movie was so so. Never saw or owned the DVD but i was surprised that Shaw VOD had it in their free section..thats when i watched it.
I could see a lot of people not liking this film at all..
I might pick it up depending on things like extras etc.

Apparently I am the audience.... because this happens to be a title I don't own, so I'll be picking it up "on the cheap" on Blu-ray...... It's a great movie.

I agree that the way Starz/Anchor Bay is handling these blu-rays is ridiculous. I'm a fan of "Man From Earth," "The Lost," and "The Girl Next Door," but these blu-ray releases are slap in the face. I don't understand if they're trying to make these discs budget-friendly or what, but the result is underwhelming, to say the least. All of the previous DVD extras have been dropped from all of these releases, which is a shame.

That's the problem, though... these blu-ray discs are dropping all the previous DVD extras, which is a shame.

I never owned the DVD, so I wouldn't mind picking it up for a budget price even with the lackluster P/AQ, but the loss of the special features is sad.

It is a great movie.

Why would you get this BD, though? Assuming that review is correct, it's going to look/sound no different than the DVD... which is also cheap and contains 2 audio commentaries and 4 featurettes.

There's no benefit to going w/BD in this situation.

Well, going by the new prices at Amazon, the blu-ray version is $1.50 cheaper than the DVD. So I guess if you wanted to save money, you could go with the blu-rauy.

And, I guess if you didn't care about any of the previous extras, either, you could choose the blu-ray over the DVD.

Yup it's one of the latest in a whole slew of vanilla BDs with standard dolby digital Starz/Anchor Bay has been churning out lately (e.g. The Lost, The Girl Next Door, Spiral, Behind The Mask, He Was A Quiet Man, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer)...

That review, or others....... I have still yet to see a Blu-ray that wasn't an improvement over any available DVD release of the same film....... It might be very very slight.... but It's probably better.... (or it would break my streak )

There are many films where I double-dipped on DVD just to get new features/extras..... but this is a film where I don't really care about the extras (or lack there of)

OK. Makes no sense to me to buy this disc (and I'm a big fan of both BD and this movie), but... I know everyone has their own criteria for purchases/collecting.

I completely agree. You have a really valid point. It's pretty apparent that consumer's interest was the last thing on their mind with this release.

All things considered, the lack of extras brings the net worth of the DVD much higher to the consumer. Personally, as far as extras go, if they include a director's commentary, I'm happy. Any other extras don't generally factor in a purchase for me, unless it's an extreme load of them. And that's not asking much. It's only a step above NO extras and I'm sold in that regard.

No one is forcing you to buy it.

I'm quite happy with it. I've only watched it via my streaming netflix through my PS3 to my 42 inch, which I watched 12 times in 6 months. So its actually quite an improvement for me. Like the review pretty much says, story telling trumps all in film making.

Why didn't they use better cameras for this film? The PQ is a big let down.

This movie is fantastic, it raises so many questions. Simple & brilliant. Enough said

I'd rather take a chance of spending $10, $20, or even $30 on a movie that I may not like, rather than watch ANYTHING on YouTube.
