Default Black Friday Campers

As usual my work let us out at noon on Wednesday for Thanksgiving weekend, so I decided to stop at Best Buy on the way home and pick up Live Free Or Die Hard on Blu. I saw about 6 people on lawn chairs in front of the store. My first impulse of course was that it's the Black Friday crowd, but then I remembered getting an email that some retail chain was having a special after hours sale that night - I couldn't remember if it was Best Buy or not. So when I got to the counter, I asked the clerk if they were having a special sale that night since there were people camping, and she said that no it's the Black Friday crowd! I dunno, I guess these days I shouldn't be surprised. It's just that I can think of better ways to spend my Thanksgiving... least of all camping in line for 40 hours for prices that will probably be no better than what Amazon or Newegg has on a regular basis.

It literally makes me sick to see all this. I used to love Christmas shopping, but with all this continued push to grab whatever bargain just to get it, makes gifts to people seem so cheap. My shopping used to involve some planning and thinking about what I wanted to get someone. Nowadays you might as well just give the people the money to get it for themselves. I hate Christmas.

I feel sorry for the people in my neck of the woods. I believe it got down into the single digits last night and they were camped out well before I even went over to my parents for turkey dinner. (1pm on thur) I ate, stayed warm, watched movies, slept, woke up around 9am, drove to the same store, walked out with a doorbuster HDTV deal. No frostbite either.

I guess most people have more time than money. I live in a city where line-ups for everyday essentials are the norm but I will not line-up for hours or days to buy my wants. Time with my family is much more important.

Which is why I choose to keep my Festivus pole up year-round. All holidays suck now!
