Default Can Paramount Opt-Out of the deal?

With the war beginning to show signs of an end in the near future, does anyone know if Paramount has a exit strategy should HD-DVD suffer a crushing defeat early next year?

Does anybody know for sure? No, unless they have a copy of the legal binding documents. But I know for a fact that most of these types of contracts always have "exit plans". With Toshiba being so desperate for an inch at the time of the deal, it's my guess they would have been more likely to allow Paramount to do what they want with the wording.

I think there's a clause that if the product - HD DVD - gets heavy losses and goes down, implying Pramount loses money and credibility, they can opt out.
Even more, I think it's Paramount's plan from the biginning, they take the cash, HD DVD dies, and they gain money from doing Blu-rays ...

I believe at least one insider here has stated that Paramount has clauses in the contract that let them out of HD-DVD exclusive status.

I'm sorry but I would not be as forgiving to Paramount as the next person. Their greed sent them down the wrong path, so now they're going to have to suck it up. Many of us here were extremely upset by the harsh slap in the face we received from them. It should be a costly lesson to them.

No one really knows what there is in the deal except Toshiba, MS and Paramount. There has been nothing that is zip info of any merit to say what there is. It really bothers me to see people speculate and guess when in reality no one except the ones above know. I wish this type of guess work would go away. If there is provable information like copies of the actual contract I would believe it but anything else would be an opinion and most likely wrong.

One of our insiders had said as much but I think it was also stated that the opt out clauses didn't have anything to do with studio supporting one side or the other.

Considering their performance on Red so far, I think they should be able to opt out now!

The recent $500million deal with Microsoft seems to make that highly unlikely.

not a bad deal for paramount... 150 mil, plus all those suckers that bought their movies on HD DVD will have to go out and rebuy them on bluray
