Well, I am guess your here you have a BluRay player?

1st reset ALL the settings

On Every sony bd there is a calibartion test pattern on it - goto the menu of the movie type in using the remote '7669' - that will take you to the test patterns.

If you don't own an sony BD or no Bluray - Starwars (anyone) goto the set-up highlight the THX logo

Oh & the settings on the Bluray Player will be diffrent then for your cable, DVR, TOA Or whatever you got hooked-up to the tv, because of the diffrent cable types used & the qulity of signal to the tv will be diffrent on each, but it will give you an idea of about what the other inputs setting will be.

Since the messed-up colors are not always there, it's not the tv but the broadcast channel or the show it self. I get that on all 3 of the HDtvs', some channels look great & some, mostly the local channels, not so great.

White balance: is not used to change/adjust the colors but to make white, white (Gain) & Black, Black (Bias). To adjust Gain you need an ALL white screen & for Bias an All black screen.

Being that I am not a Techno-Lord, I must say I am impressed that you guys actually know this stuff. I would be lost without this forum.

Are you sure you didn't buy a Toshiba Regza? Just kidding...

There is a very good XBR4/5 calibration thread over at avsforum.com. I recommend trying those. I bought a 46" XBR4 in November and couldn't be happier with it. I used the settings posted by "Coma" after Avia calibration:

Backlight: 4
Picture: 72
Brightness: 52
Color: 57
Hue: 0
Color Temp: Neutral
Sharp: 30
Noise Reduction: Off

Blue gain: -5
Green gain: -5
Green bias: -5
Color space: Standard
Detail enhancer: high
Motion enhancer: high
Cinemotion: auto2

If you're still not satisfied with the color, it may be that your TV is defective, in which case I would exchange the set for another. I wasn't happy with the mura on my first XBR4 I brought home but the next one was top notch.

Also, be sure that you're using an HDMI cable and NOT a component cable. Theres been a couple people I've come across that hook those up wrong. Even though they're color coded, somehow people hook up the RED AUDIO OUPUT of the Blu-ray player to the RED COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT on the tv I know. I know. Trust me, I've seen it done.

Double check your connections. The Sony XBR5 is hands down the BEST LCD money can buy. There should be NO disappointments.

just a thought...maybe you bought a Green-ray player?

maybe try a new cable. my hdmi was bad and would flicker green dots across the screen.

this post belongs in home theater discussion.

The Sony Blu-ray calibration patters won't do you much good in fixing color unless you have a proper set of cellophanes.

(They can be used for greyscale calibration (brightness, contrast, etc.) and geometry (overscan, sharpness, etc.) just fine without any extra equipment.)

I've never heard of the "green" tint in Sony XBR4/5 LCDs that people cannot get rid of. The picture can look red or blue depending on the color temperature. The "hue" setting is the only one that you could have screwed up to turn the color green except for the ones in the advanced menu. If resetting the settings to factory defaults don't help, try that one.

enjoy
