Would like to see it in Blu-ray as well. Kind of a B movie with good special effects.

More than likely if this did come to blu-ray it would look a lot better than it did on tv. I am not saying it did not look good on tv, but normally they look much better when on blu so you would be even happier because you would get a better quality. It would be a Disney film as well and they do good work.

This movie is outstanding and has a beautiful and haunting film score by Italian great Ennio Morricone. My favorite scene is when Van Halen's 'Dance the Night Away' is heard in the background and as everyone gathers to that area the music comes into full audio focus and Tim Robbins and his gorgeous wife are dancing without gravity! Totally cool scene and film! Sweet if it makes it to Blu-ray. Hell, I have it on VHS and even that looks damn good. Skins

I don't get it either but it's likely the studio did it as a feeble attempt to try and prevent distribution outside of France (it being Regon B locked is another way to control it within a larger but specific region). As far as I'm aware this is the only place the title has been released and Studio Canal doesn't have worldwide rights for the title.
Google Studio Canal and forced subtitles and you'll see this is an ongoing but hit and miss issue with the studio. However, they're not the only culprits as other studios have also done it, TF1 to name another. I think I understand what the Amazon reviewer was trying to refer to because on some titles you are presented with a French, German, English, etc language menu where you can select the appropriate menu language before preceding to the main menu (ala Universal Studios releases in Europe). If you select other than English and then select the English audio track you then get force subtitles; but that doesn't happen if you select the English option first. However, on my copy this language selection menu doesn't exist; probably because it's only released in France. Then again the disc's volume label shows up as MISSIONTOMARSV2. The V2 makes me wonder if there was an original V1 release. Wish manufacturers would implement a user option to ignore user prohibited operations. |

I know that they wouldn't be able to pull this off here in Germany. |

Yeah I liked the Van Halen scene but I prefer Red Planet to Mission to Mars. The duds have this one so maybe Warner can show us a little love and send it this way.

Today my copy arrived and I tested it immediately. Unfortunately, as far as I can see now, the French subs are really forced. I did not have much time to experiment but as far as I can see now it's forced. Fortunately the subs are small and very low in the screen.

Although I won't watch it, I still own the very old DVD and won't give it away until they release it on Blu-ray in the US. I've always liked this film, general consensus be damned, and it should look absolutely stunning in high definition.

Surprised this hasn't seen a USA Blu-ray release, especially with all the talk of possible future manned Mars missions.
It's a good movie, I'd buy it if they released it. I do have the France import which is Region B locked. |
