PS3 Error Message: "Disc cannot be played"??? - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

I just got Close Encounters from Netflix, the disc is clean, I popped it in and after the PS3 read it for about 10 seconds, it went back to the XMB screen with "Disc cannot be played" with a long number 934....

I haven't updated the Ps3 with 2.2 profile yet, but just watched 3:10 to Yuma last night, and popped in The Departed after I got this message and it worked fine...anyone know what this message means?? defective disk???

BTW, I searched thread titles for "CLose Encounters" "disc cannot be displayed" and "error" but no threads were relevant, sorry if this has already been discussed...

I think the disc is bad.

I own an 80GB PS3 that's about as old as 80GB PS3s get. It gets light usage and pretty much protein folds for 99.9% of it's life. I've been getting that message since 2.2 firmware but it seems only when I bring my PS3 out of Folding@Home. If I put the disc in the player prior to shutting down F@H the PS3 doesn't even show it in the XMB Video section. The player would see and play DVDs but no joy with Enchanted and Pixar's Shorts.

I left the machine in standby over night to let it cool down and it seems to load fine. I'm not sure if it's the new PS3 firmware or the recent F@H that's the culprit but until I hear more, I'm gonna pause my folding. Trying to explain to a 4 year old why the stack of Disney BDs won't run isn't a fun task.
