My sole viewing of this left me with the vague memory that it can get cringe-maudlin at times- but it was overall affecting, and I have wanted to see it again.

This isn't related to Save The Tiger but Luv was added to Amazon Prime in HD last month:
https://www.amazon.com/Luv-Elaine-May/dp/B0B8QSXZYB/

It has not been released on blu-ray and it is not available to buy/rent digitally in HD.

Even though Jack said this was one of his worst movies when asked by Johnny Carson, it's still worth checking out. The discussion starts at 0:20:

Also, You Can't Run Away From It is available for the first time in HD as an extra in the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 3 box set released this week:

I hope this gets a UK release (although I doubt it) just to save on shipping. As far as I can see you can only get it from Australia?

The new Imprint release of "Save the Tiger" seems to be OOP already - at least on their own website. Could this be one of the 70s Paramount titles that KL wanted to release as a new restoration? Judging from the screenshots, the transfer seems to be from an older master. Though the Imprint supplements are likely superior to anything Kino will put together, I'd still prefer a newer transfer if one gets available. Not sure what to do, since I've been burned (or nearly burned) a few times by Imprint already.

At the moment I'm thinking of not getting the Imprint release. Perhaps KL will do a remaster. After all, Jack Lemmon won an Academy Award for Best Actor for this film, so there might be enough interest in the title to warrant a lower-end remaster.

For those that missed this excellent release there's a couple popped up on SmokeCDs shop https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135201113216 About £20.00 delivered to the UK (but they post elsewhere).

Described as clearance with some packaging damage.

One of my favourite 1970s' films.

Maybe because I'm just about the character's age now, and not twenty years younger (like the last/only time I saw it), I found it to be far less cringe than I remembered. Even what I remembered as the most maudlin moments at the end with the conversation between Lemmon and Heineman in the beach house, hit me different now.

Hell, I get more cringe than that in some of these threads sometimes, waxing nostalgic to an audience that couldn't care less

Bottom line is that I'm so glad I popped for this release. Even if Kino puts it out in a much more economical package at some point, it's become a worthwhile enough film for me that I don't mind the outlay.

Yes, this is a key revelation. I mean, it's kind of obvious to say but if I had seen this when I was 30 then I would have thought Jack Lemmon was a great actor and it would have had a neat '70s vibe about it - but I doubt it would have made much of an emotional impact. I would have seen it more from Heineman's age perspective and Lemmon might have seemed pathetic.

Watching it for the first time now, and I'm not saying I have ever talked to an arsonist in a porno theater to burn my business down for the insurance money to save my marriage and my daughter's education but I understand what would lead a person to a porno theater to talk to an arsonist to burn their business down.

Tis a great film and it's added meaning over time for me too. Although that could just be old age dulling my memories

I watched the documentary John G. Avildsen: King of the Underdogs last week hoping it would have a lot on Save The Tiger but very little sadly (still something for fans). Full of Rocky and Karate Kid crap mostly.

John G. Avildsen: King of the Underdogs Blu-ray review

It's really worth digging up especially if you like Karate Kid. The Blu-ray is listed by a Marketplace Seller (1 copy $19.99!) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748QYHSV/ It was removed from iTunes. It's on Amazon UK's Prime https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0751KWWD8/ still too.

I watched Charlie Rose's (whatever happened to him?) interview with Lemmon and he said -always does if asked- that Save The Tiger was very important to him. I think it's beautifully acted and directed maybe Avildsen's finest film.

It's great it's had a new lease of life with 2 Blu-ray releases.

From the new review:

“won the once prestigious statuette.” Does he not agree with the recent winners? Sounds like this is more of a political comment rather than an observation that is relevant. I mean the Oscar’s sometimes age the award to the best performance and other times they didn’t through out its career. One can point through out the history of the Oscars to awards that were given, not because they necessarily “the best” but for a variety of other reasons as well.

On a side note, I am disappointed the extras from the Impeint weren’t included even if we get a fresh scan.
