Talking I REALLY wanted a Blu-Ray & have just bought a HD-DVD player! Update: Order cancelled

I've wanted a Blu-Ray since I first heard about em (which feels like forever), but here in the UK you can buy 3 HD-DVD players for the price of 1 Blu-ray.
And to be honest I couldn't afford to pay that and was desperate to have 1080p in whatever form I could get it the end.

There it is my confession, commence the stoning!.

There's the key word bolded.

I tried it out for six weeks and coming from that, all I can say is: I wish you far better luck than I had.

You may want to go to www.hd-dvd.com and try and resurrect that place. Good luck!

40 percent studio support and crappy hardware from a barely second rate CE company and no one else? You're going to need it!

After you see what HD-DVD has to offer, you're just going to want Blu-Ray even more...so I don't think you're going to satisfy your hunger that easily

I still intend to get a Blu-ray, the way I figure it is:
I buy the HD-DVD player now, for one third of the price of Blu-Ray, I use that until the prices of the Blu-Ray's drop one third, then I buy the blu-Ray and have both formats in the end, and a form of 1080p High definition immediately.

Desperate yeah!.

That's the truth.

After 6 weeks of buggy, crappy hardware I knew by the time I got to the Fall and we got into PS3 territory and the rest of it that I'd be seeing the real goods. I was right.

The PS3 even runs circles around those Toshiba players in terms of performance, stability, speed, and just outright better hardware in every respect.

Both formats have their share of subpar discs, but golly it's sure nice to have a great piece of equipment and 90 percent studio support behind it.

Hank is basically where I was in June: Impatient. Impulsive and "desperate."

We'll see how long it lasts.

The PS3 isn't even an option for immediate use as it dosen't release until 07/03/2007 in the UK!.

These companies don't understand I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!.

Impusliveness, impatience, and "desperate" lead to less than wise choices. Been there, done that.

How much did you actually pay for your HD deck? Did you consider importing PS3?

One thing here though is that:

In the UK (and the whole of Europe), Blu-ray has more titles right now than what HD-DVD has to offer. (54 Blu-ray titles against what? less than 20 HD-DVD titles). Blu-ray has secured the lead in Europe and they are won't let HD-DVD pass them over there.

And I think the HD-E1 and HD-XE1 players have been delayed for a month before they got released (are they out already?)

Anyways, Blu-ray still has the lead in the number of players/devices:

Blu-ray (Samsung player, Panasonic DMP-BD10 and the one from Philips)

while....

HD-DVD (the two units from Toshiba)

Blu-ray leads 3:2 over HD-DVD in hardware player count.

Just pointing out

I suggest you wait for the PS3 . But don't import it from US or Japan (or even the ones from Hong Kong and/or Taiwan) UNLESS you have region A movie titles.

HD-DVD isn't doing well in Europe and especially the East at all from what I understand. It's almost DOA outright in the East...

Does the Toshiba HD-E1 player you got do 1080p?

Yup, but the states can override the law with their own minimum wage.

I got into HDDVD for $400 so I couldn't complain, until I got the player home and it started buggin out on me. Now I wished I had just waited and got the 360 HDDVD add on only (which I ended up buying too) because it runs circles around the A1 and is half the price. But hey I got a great upconverting player now in the A1 that happens to play HDDVD's with a certain amount of forewarning mind you

HDDVD IMO is worth it, if you have an xbox360...otherwise, just put your ducks into Blu Ray.

Catastrophe averted, the HD-DVD is cancelled, and I must learn some patience, it's a virtue apparently.
I'm waiting for the Panasonic now, unless anyone can tell me a good reason not to?...

Thanks to everyone for the great advice.
