Default Flickering problem

Before I explain whats happening, heres my setup;

-Sharp 37" LCD -LC-C3742U
-60g PS3
-Yamaha V661
-HDMI cables from monoprice

I have the PS3 connected to the receiver via HDMI, then the Receiver out to the TV via HDMI. Now, Every once in awhile the picture/audio flickers (looks like the HDMI handshake) It's very annoying, somedays it will be totally fine then other days it flickers like crazy.

Before I got the V661 I was using a Samsung HTIB (PS3 optical to Samsung, HDMI to TV) The image would also flicker but only when the DD5.1 and DTS was checked. If I unchecked the DD5.1 and DTS the flickering would completely go away... I'm thinking it could be my PS3, please help me!

Could be just a lose HDMI cable, I have had the same thing happen on 2 diffrent tv's, screen goes blank for a like a sec or 2 then comes back & this would happen maybe once week sometimes more, some time weeks could go by. My fix, Duct tape at both ends, fixed!!

Ok, I now have;
Video output from the PS3 to TV via component
Audio output from PS3 via HDMI to receiver

and everything is perfect, no blinks! but it's annoying me, I want to use the HDMI for both. I can't stand the washed out look...

anybody?

try giving your PS3 a good ol' fashioned reset:

Settings - System Settings - Restore Default Settings

...have had this correct audio issues, ya never know...

also, do you have 1080p/24Hz on? (should be off)

Settings - BD/DVD Settings - BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) - OFF

Probably not the answer, but aside from a possible loose connection I don't have a clue? What about the 661, can you rule it out?

Yeah, I've tried reset/restoring it twice. It's fine for awhile and then it starts blinking, I've noticed it starts blinking in transition from enter/exiting games or movies.

I'm going to try the V661 out on another TV tomorrow, i'm thinking it has something to do with the HDMI handshake...

Perhaps try resetting the 661?

refer to page 103 in the user manual on how to. Could be a last ditch solution?

keep in mind you might need to re-configure your input buttons again.

this might sound stupid but i had the same problem with my samsung tv and both my old sony reciever and my new yamaha one. i found the only way i could fix the problem was to get an hdmi 1.3 cable. i know it sounds odd but the ps3,tv,and reciever now get along just fine.

This is exactly what i'm talking about; (around 1:49)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gj_gEwHOQEI

Mine however dosn't do it all the time, I can play a game or watch a movie and then a couple hours later is starts blinking like crazy. Again, it only occurs during transition into a game/movie.

Isn't this the handshake issue? (which i have no idea what that is). I thought that this was with certain TVs and both Sony and the TV manufactures were blaming each other about it.

I used to have the problem on my 1080i tv but with the Sharp it never happens.

I thought there wasn't a difference between HDMI cables? How much are HDMI 1.3 cables and where can I get one? I'm using 2 HDMI cables from monoprice.com

My inlaws had this exact same problem a few months back. They have a Samsung 4661, the v661, and the PS3. We tried everything from bypassing the receiver to getting a new one, we tried different HDMI ports on the tv, made sure the PS3 was completely updated with all the correct settings. They bought the overpriced monster HDMI cables so I used some of mine from monoprice. Still flickered like you described.

Finally, we decided to switch out the PS3 before taking the tv back, just seemed easier. Updated it, still flickered. As a last ditch effort, we made sure to set the 1080/24p hz output to off (as referenced earlier in Crackin's post) and it hasn't blinked since. So I think it was the PS3, because we had all the same settings on the old one with no result. When we got the new one, everything worked great and has since!

I'm not sure if you have tried that or not, but it seemed to work for their setup. Hope that helps!

P.S.-all their cables were cat 2 HDMI (1.3a) as well.

Are they these HDMI cables?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Also, Crackinhedz explains the differences in cables in the link below.
