Default Buying TV for Blu-Ray Player

Im thinking about buying an HDTV for my PS3 but the question i have is that on a lot of the blu-ray DVDs it says that it only plays in a 1080P format. So does that mean in order to get the HD quality out of the PS3 for Blu-rays that I have to buy a 1080P HDTV?

It will downscale it to 720p. And when you set up your PS3 it will auto detect what your max output is and automaticly set your PS3's output to 720p.

Amazon has this 56 inch DLP for that price delivered.
Samsung HL-S5687W 56" 1080p DLP HDTV

The 50 inch one is two-hundred less.

My advice is to see them in the stores and ask lots of questions. It's a big ticket item and you should feel good about your purchase.

Thanks for all the responses. Most im probably willing to spend is around $1,000. so any suggestions on LCD's or DLP TV's would be appreciated. Also, is the diff between the 1080P and 720P that much?

720P only has one million pixels. 1080P has 2 million pixels. The more pixels one has the more detailed the picture will be. 1080P is the maximum resolution of HDTV. Buying a 1080P is the smartest thing to do, there will not be a better display technology for about 5-10 years. You can get 37 inch 1080P LCD monitors for around $1,200 but I would strongly recommend a Sony SXRD 50 inch rear projector for around $1600 (mail order price). The Sony has 1080P input with 10,000:1 contrast ratio with 2.5 ms response time. LCD’s around $1200 generally have only an 8MS response time with 1,000:1 contrast ratios.

But how noticable is 720p compared to 1080p to the naked eye? I've looked at the TV's at BB and dont' really see a difference. There both beautifull.

Default info

Many people don’t see a big difference between 1080P and 720P unless the screen is 50 inches or more. At a distance of 6.5 feet you will see a big difference on a 50 inch screen and on a 70” screen there is a difference at 10 feet away. I have seen a difference on a 37” 1080P display seating 5 feet from the screen. Also keep in mind some stores don’t always play 1080P or 1080I programming. Some stores only demo sets on DVD quality 480P and HDTV 720P quality. You can save a lot of money going 720P. Walmart has a Sanyo 30” CRT big tube TV with 720P and QAM tuner with HDMI for under $400. The average CRT has a 50,000:1 contrast ratio.

going with a set or projector in 720p will save you money plus there is not a whole lot of content in 1080p

How about a 46" or 52" XBR2/XBR3 eh? Are these panels worth their price or is the SXRD a better choice?
