Have you seen the 52" XBR3 Bravia? (drool)

I'm still leaning toward the 60" XBR2 SXRD. From everything I can find it still has the best blacks of any tech save CRT-RPTV.

For picture quality the Sony SXRD sets are better quality then the Bravia sets. SXRD has 10,0000:1 contrast ratio with 2.5 ms response time which is great for watching fast action movies. The Bravia LCD screen is more expensive because of the nice thin size for hanging on the wall. The Sony BRAVIA LCD screens have only 8ms response time with contrast ratios of 7,000:1. While in this day and age 7,000:1 contrast ratio is currently excellent when compared to other LCD screens on the market it is not as good as the SXRD rear projector sets.
For better picture quality go with the SXRD if you have the room for rear projection. If this is for a small room then LCD is thin and small to hang on the wall. Also keep in mind about every year or two you need to replace the SXRD projector light bulb for $249 which is a small price to pay for such a large screen with improved picture quality.

Is the 10,000:1 contrast ratio with auto Iris on or off on the SXRD, and is it full on/full off contrast, or ANSI? (ANSI CR is more important to me in overall image quality, as a lens tends to degrade simultaneous contrast greatly)

The difference between 10,000:1 and 7,000:1 in maximum black is 0.5 f-stop darker for the 10,000:1

Actually does anyone know how IQ on SXRDs compares with Sammy DLPs x88W series that is. ANd I assume SXRDs don't have pincusioning as larger DLPs do?

Not sure about this, but you can get warranties that help cover those bulb costs/replacements yes?

SXRD is rated in a review with Full-On/Full-Off Contrast Ratio 14,544:1 and ANSI Contrast Ratio 364:1 for the KDS-R60XBR2 according to page 72 of the Feb 2007 Home theater magazine. 6 Big screens face off and the reviews gave over all better picture quality ratings to the Samsung HL-S6188W DLP as the best display, second best was JVC HD-61FN97D-ILA, third best was Toshiba 62MX196 DLP, and the fourth place this year was Sony KDS-R60XBR2 SXRD. Come on Sony make some major improvements in SXRD since DLP is starting to outperform you this year by a slight margin.
In regards to Front and rear projectors replacing projector bulbs around 8,000 hours is not covered in the warranty. The $249-$300 cost is a small price to pay compared to LCD and Plasam displays which can be several thousand dollars more for one at the same screen size.

Yes the Sony SXRD is an awesome set. Regarding the 6 big screen face off in the Feb 2007 Home Theater magazine I would recommend someone to purchase the magazine to read the in-depth reviews before making a purchase. All 6 of these sets have plusses and minuses. I for one was more attracted to the JVC review then the Samsung. The Samsung is not perfect and one of the reviews on the panel was in disagreement about the quality. The good thing for the consumer is there is a lot of competition and quality on 1080P rear projectors are very close regardless of which model you purchase.
I like Sony products since they are high quality in general. There are also several other good companies making products also.

I would choose SXRD or JVC Lcos over plasma or DLP as DLP has rainbows and keep thinking the color wheel will breakdown
as for Bravia little pricey right now

Yeah. I wonder how many people have already told their child to forget about college because of that?

$32,999!!!

I wonder if 50" - 60" versions are forthcoming?

Surprising. Any mention of the general DLP issues?
