Just ordered a PS3 (after 2 bad 360s!)

I'm fed up. I had an original 360, it had the red circle of death. Later on, I opted for an elite...and yesterday..it has the red circle of death.
I'm not a hard core gamer, by any stretch. I already have a Sony HDTV, a Sony BR player..so might as well get a Sony game system.
So what games do you recommend? I like shooters like Rainbow Vegas, and CD4 (which I've ordered) and sports games.
Any other recommendations? Not really into RPGs, though.

Definitely get "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune"

Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank are the only two exclusives I can think of. I'd highly recommend Uncharted if you were into Gears of War, but would like something more platformish instead of shooter-based. Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming out soon if you're into games like that.

Play FPS on your PC. There's better competition if you really like FPS, but you say you're not a hardcore gamer, so you might be better off with the PS3. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the PS3 has the worst controller imaginable for FPS. =(

Could not agree more i wish i could somehow use my 360 controller when i'm playing cod4. But anyways Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank are pretty bad ass first two games i've played offline and actually finished. both are must haves

I reccomend MLB 08: The Show, Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Uncharted, Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 08, Madden 08, Rainbow Six Vegas 2

If we are talking exclusives..

Shooter wise check out Resistance and Uncharted. You may dig Ratchet and Clank it is a great game but not strictly a shooter. Uncharted possibly has the best graphics on any console right now.

You might also like Ninja Guiden and Heavenly Sword if you are into combat / God of War style fighting. A lot of crap in this genre but these two are excellent and have good graphics.

As for up and coming this year for shooters Haze comes out in May, Metal Gear Solid 4 in June. Socom, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 later this year.

I have a 360 that has not red ringed once yet but I am on my PS3 way more.

Thanks. I have ordered uncharted, as well as Rainbow 6 Vegas 2...I've played it on the 360.
I'm not worried about exclusive titles, so much as something fun to play.
Can't hurt to have a 2nd BR player either.

No, Microsoft went on a CYA mode and issued a 3 year warranty for such failures.

Wow three in 6 months! I bet you are fed up! I only bought an Elite (after 6 months) because I had several 360 games. My son has an Elite, and he has played a LOT more than I have, never had an issue with his. At least he can use the 360 games.
I told him I let him play the PS3 for only $20/hour.

someone should maybe make a sticky about games for new PS3 owners. maybe make a best of each genre (i.e. FPS, racing, sports, etc...) it seems we get a new PS3 owner who wants to know what games to buy, every week...which is a good thing

I'm on my 3rd 360 at the moment, but I can't complain since Microsoft replaced all of mine within a few days as they used free overnight shipping both ways. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it simply because of the game collection.

As for PS3 games, I've only had my system for like 4 days myself. But the only game I've played so far was excellent; Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

I Agree. Very good idea. Btw to Op. Warhawk is good, though it's multiplayer only. It's 3rd person shooter.

I only buy xbox exclusives for my 360 - and even then, only if I am absolutely intrigued by a game - and on top of that, I will only ever buy such games used so as to cut all my losses down when that inevitable day comes that my 360 crashes (as you can tell, I have no faith in microsoft or the longevity of their console)


I buy all multiplatform games for the PS3 and I buy them brand new (as well as PS3 exclusives of course) because I know that I will still be able to pick them up and play them again 10 years from now when I'm feeling nostalgic for the old games - Lego Star Wars, Condemned: Bloodshot, Viking, Enchanted Arms, The Darkness, Orange Box - are all games I could've bought for my 360, but f' that. I bought them all for my PS3 instead. When Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out, I will obviously be buying it on the PS3 as I don't want to find myself 80% through it just for the box to red ring and then lose everything I've worked so hard to get to.



Also, the stupidly loud fan noise is so very distracting when I'm trying to play games like Bioshock and Dead Rising in the middle of the night (for maximum atmosphere) and like GTA4, when the new Silent Hill and Resident Evil games are released, I will be buying these for the PS3 as they often go without audio - or just have subtle ambient sounds in the distance, the last thing I want is to be distracted by the loud BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR of the fan when I'm trying to creep myself out at 12:AM - long after everyone else in the house has gone to bed (so I can't turn up the volume to ridiculously loud levels to try and cover up the fan noise)


I'm sure I would've enjoyed Bioshock even more so if I didn't keep thinking to myself every 45 minutes "damn that fan is loud" [/rant]

The 2nd X-Box..never an issue.
360 when first introduced...failed within 6 months. (red circle of death)
Elite 6-7 months old...red circle of Death.

No more 360's for me.
