Default Audio setup help please!!

Hey, im pretty noobie when it comes to audio equipment and anything to do with audio, but i was setting up a mini home theater and needed to get a system. What can i get for about $500-$600. I dont have anything right now so i need to get a receiver and speakers (not sure if there something else i need). I want to be able to play TrueHD sound, basically the best you can play with blu-rays. I have a ps3 and a 42'' Panasonic plasma. After doing some research i was thinking of the Marantz 4001 or Onkyo 605. Not sure if this is what i need though. Can someone reccommend speakers and a receiver for in my price range. Thanks, much appericated.

the Marantz or the Onkyo would make a great receiver choice.

pair it up with these:

Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System

since you have a PS3 doing the decode, you can even go with:

Sony STR-DG720

...But as far as quality is concerned, the Marantz and Onkyo would top it.

what your trying to do is pretty much what I was doing initially. I went inexpensive on everything, and now I am regretting it, personally if I were you doing it all over again, and had a BD player that will decode the audio(i dont) I would just get the sony 720 or 820 which can process lpcm (my 710 wont) and let the decoding happen in the BD player(your PS3). then spend my money on high quality speakers, personally I prefer B&W speaker and would purchase the 600 series(due to budget) or the CM series(a splurge). Then later if you want you can once again upgrade your receiver and never need to change your speakers. They also make great in wall speaker for front, center, rears, overhead everything. They also have some that come on a stand. Use a carpet snake to hide the wires.

My set up is ok, it is all sony speakers and a 710 receiver, but i need to upgrade now, should have waited a little longer, but I got itchy last year. That said, in the future as I redo my set up, I am going to do it slowly and right, but again with expense as a factor in my purchasing.
Future will be S350 BDP, Sony 820 AV Receiver, but with B&W speakers.
My system is currently a 5.1, but with the new receiver being a 7.1 my first new speakers will be the start to the new setup.

I have heard better speakers then mine, but I did it on a budget and got everything with tax at about $800. My dad has B&W, his is the tightest system I have ever heard at high and low volume.

Hiding speaker wire is a ***** without running through the wall, but it van be easily done with some type of tapestry hung on the wall behind/around your TV if the speakers are close enough. That's what I'm thinking of doing.

As for speakers that hang on the wall, check out the Bowers & Wilkins M-1 speakers. They are a rather compact speaker with a great punch to them and they come with wall mount brackets for installation. If you are in Canada, you can get 5 of them for max $1250. That's what I paid back in December.

not "in the wall" but many speaker stands, like mine have, you can run the wires down the inside of the speaker stand, then it's a matter of hiding them on the floor, so no wall worries.
