Default Audio Setup

when I go to my setup screen, my Audio(HDMI) is grayed out. Is that because I'm not running HDMI into my receiver? Also, where it says Dolby Digital under the Audio Setup - do i want Dolby Digital or Downmix PCM? I'm just trying to get the absolute best sound I can from this. Please HELP!

I have a Sony surround sound system (DAV-LF1) I believe is the model. It's a Home Theater System. I am also running HDMI from my blu-ray to my TV which works, and also using component cables to my TV as well. Just trying to see why the HDMI option is grey...

Does your receiver have HDMI in/out capability?

no HDMI but it does say "optical digital out". just confused on what that means...I also have component out from my receiver. I already have a set of component running from BD to my TV. Where would I run my component out from my receiver to?

If you only have the PS3, Sony system and TV, I would:
Run HDMI OR Component cables from PS3 to the TV This would be for video only)
Run a Toslink (optical digital audio) from the PS3 to the receiver. This would give you the best audio, absent a HDMI connection.
Turn off the TV speakers.
Good luck!

Let's start over.
What components are you trying to connect?

OK, how about this:
If you only have the Blu-ray, Sony system and TV, I would:
Run HDMI OR Component cables from Blu-Ray to the TV This would be for video only)
Run a Toslink (optical digital audio) from the Blu-ray player to the receiver. This would give you the best audio, absent a HDMI connection.
Turn off the TV speakers.
Good luck!

Component is video only. You don't need component OUT of the receiver if you are not running vidio IN.
You don't run component OUT of a TV, they only have component IN.
