Default Blu-ray load times

I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this (I may have missed it somewhere and apologize if it is there), but why do Sony discs have a load time of a minute or two, but discs from many other studios start up almost immediately?

Load times generally have to do with the speed at which the player can load the BD-J information. Most of the newer titles have some load times though I am not positive about any difference between studios.

BD-J titles typically take longer than ones without java as it has to load the whole java client each time the movie is started.

That said, after that it's dependant on the player. For instance, the much-vaulted PS3 never takes more than 15-20 seconds for any movie I've put in, and that's a very conservative estimate.

I anticipate as manufacturing costs for the players gets cheaper they'll be able to increase the horsepower on the players and make them more efficient at loading movies. 1-2 minutes is really ridiculous and I'd never be able to put up with that.

How about 4-5 minutes? That's what it took for my Pioneer 95FD player to load 'Ratatouille' when it first came out. Subsequent firmware updates have shortened the load times a bit, but it's still about 3 minutes. All BD-J discs take at least a minute or two to load on this player. (Still love the player, though. )

I know a lot of people don't like using the PS3 as a player, but when I switched from my Sony standalone player to the PS3 the load times were a WORLD of difference. Much faster presumably thanks to the CELL processor.

Ratatouille was a really slow title for me too. Much faster on the PS3.

Most of the recent Sony releases have heavy BD-Java and BD-Live implementations. Men In Black is a good example of this phenomena. With all the major studios pushing this further and further, load times will continue to be long until the hardware manufacturers get a grip on it.

Load times? I have hardly any idea what you are talking about I use a PS3 and the load times can be faster than on my DVD player!
