Default Sanyo PLV-Z5 or Panasonic Pt-AX200u ?

This will be my first projector. Seems like the Sanyo is sharper while the Panny is brighter...anything else?

Be advised that the AX200 may have Bulb Flickering. The AE300 had it, the AE500, AE700, AX100 and AX200 all may have MAY have it...

keep in mind that both these models will be replaced shortly with updated models. the Z5 replacment is said to have a 1080p panel.

5 weeks to the CEDIA show, so may be worth a wait to see whats coming.

Z5 was replaced by Z2000 last year. Sanyo don't do 720p projector anymore. My guess is the Z3000 will be annonced at CEDIA in Septembre like always.

I would go for the Panny. The Bulb flickering I wouldn't be too concerned with considering it is the number one selling projector and only a small few over at AVS have the flickering problem (which if you have something go wrong you will see more people talk about it than having nothing go wrong with the projector). Plus, the Sanyo units have their fair share of problems as well so it's not like the Panny is alone in having some problems.

Plus, right now you get an extra year warranty and a Blockbuster rental card.

You may also want to look into the Epson Home Cinema 720, which right now you can get a $100 rebate and free extra bulb.

actually the z2000 is not the Z5 replacment. there will both be a sanyo Z3000 based on D7 1080p panels and a cheaper Z7 (no Z6 for some reason) that will be based on current 1080p panels.

Epson also have the new D8 panels in the TW3000 ready to go, that give LCD a native 7k:1 contrast...not bad.

Well...got the Panny. The extra lumens made me decide. What is bulb flickering?...yes it will be my first projector, like in the old B&W movies?

if the bulb starts to flicker you will know what it is for sure so dont worry about it unless it becomes an issue.

I've had the Z5 for just over a year now with 1000 hours, I bought it because it had such good reviews about its sharpness, and boy they werent wrong...

here are my screenshots with the Z5 - my camera has trouble capturing the correct contrast/saturation - these looks much much better to the naked eye, but you should at least be able to see the sharpness:
