Default Sanyo PLV-Z60

OK, I finally got the green light from my wife to start the projector research. I would appreciate any input or thoughts on the Sanyo PLV-Z60, as my budget is right around $1000 for the projector only. I got an e-mail confirmation price of $799, instead of the MDRP of $1,295. I have not found in price, a comparable 1080p LCD projector out there, so I really like this one. I think this is a great price, but I also like this projector because it is an LCD instead of a DLP. My set-up will be in a basement with complete light control. My throw distance would be about 12-13 feet, and I have a space of exactly 80" between my two front speakers, which equates to a 92" diagonal screen. Also, is it true that for setting up a projector, an LCD projector is a bit easier to do than a DLP?

You, my friend, have a serious case of upgraditis

I looked into 720p projectors pretty briefly, sanyo and epson seemed to come to the front of the line in my search. I haven't seen either in person

You should consider the Epson 720 as well, its just under 1k on the street right now and is a very well reviewed FP

Here is a little comparision of 3 under 1k... http://www.projectorcentral.com/part...pare_list=3475

Hopefully someone who has actually seen these in action can better weigh in

Thanks for the link igotacabada. I have been working on my wife for months and we finally had the money talk last night, and I got my green light to start researching! Upgraditis is a b*tch for sure! From my understanding, the two are very similiar according to the link you provided, but with the Sanyo at $799 and the Epson at $950 at VisualApex, I just don't see the extra $150 in improvement between the two. I am also keeping the 1080 p Optoma HD20 in mind, but it is a DLP, and I really want an LCD.

I'm trying to not only get everything correctly purchased the first time, but to also make it as easy as possible to set-up as well.

With your ability in making Great Choices and the desire you possess to learn about all aspects of your projector set-up,you will do quite Well,I Believe.
Take your time,do your research, listen to those who have gone before you and your first try will be the only try you need to make sure your projector and screen choices are correct.

Thanks Tals. I have to admit I really like this pj, and it is my leading candidate. With the $799 price tag, its a keeper. If it goes back up to $899, I will look at the Epson 720 (currently $950) or Optoma HD20 (currently $999, even though it is a DLP, it is a 1080p projector.)

The Sanyo does seem to be a Very Good Brand and the 60 looks to be an excellent model.
I think it will be a Great Choice.

If you can locate our old friend brokenthumbs and look thru his gallery you will see his Sanyo PLV-Z60 and some screen shots(if the gallery is still there)If memory serves me well they were outstanding.

Have you given a look or any thought about the Optima HD15 ?

Hey guys, my projector is the Sanyo Z2. The Z2 is the 2003 model, the Z60 is the 2008 model. The Z60 will look much better than my projector does.

I wish Sanyo would hurry up and announce their 2009-2010 line. That would probably drive the current models down in price even more.

I think it's great you are still looking to get a pj Fors.

Thanks "stanger." I got the green light from the wife to move forward , so now the research begins.....the price I got for this in an e-mail from Visual Apex was $799, and it had me really looking into it. But if the new Sanyo's might be coming out soon, I may have to wait to see if it does in fact go even lower!

The new Sanyo models are usually released in November. $799 is a great price though. I wouldn't think it would go too much lower.

I was thinking that too. I just wonder if it would stay at the $799 price. If it goes back up to $899, I may be looking into the Panny because of the great brightness it possess, as 2000 lumens is quite nice indeed. However, I have almost 100% control of the lighting in the room, so the brightness feature is nice, but not necessary for me. I even found an Elite 92" pulldown screen that fits perfectly in my front sounstage for just $111, and it has the right gain and white screen that matches perfectly with the Sanyo. I could easily get everything I need for under $1000.....which is mind boggling when you think of it.....

I know! It's crazy how much you can get for a $1000 today. Just 3 years ago I purchased a Samsung 23" 720p LCD for $999!!!!
You can't go wrong with a 92" high definition image for under $1000.

In the reviews I read, they say the Panny is brighter but the Sanyo has the edge in black levels. I don't think you would need the extra brightness with 100% light control and a 92" screen. If your screen was around the 120" range the Panny's extra brightness would come in handy though.

Yep, that was what the review said too. My screen is a bit too small to demand that kind of brightness, especially since I have light control. But I like the brightness for sports, as I watch a lot of it and it would be nice to just have it when needed. But for an extra $200, it surely isn't worth it. I think my wife believes I am not telling her the whole truth either, as I show her the prices of these things, she wants to know what the catch is or what I'm leaving out.

I think the Sanyo is the best overall choice. When you look at all it does and all of its features it leads to a Great Product.
A Good to Great Performer in ALL Categories.Maybe there are certain models that perform better in an area or 2,but as an overall package the Sanyo seems to have the advantage.

It has my vote and the features it does possess are exactally what I need.We appreciate the path you started us on(with Sanyo Projectors)a couple of months ago, brokenthumb.

Now its just a matter of me waiting until Black Friday for myself to have all the funds neccesary. But fors, you have the ability to start building your set up.So it looks as if the $799 price is as low as it will probably go.

But its amazing what you get for that price.Especially when I spent over $900 for a Sanyo 37inch 720p LCD in December of 2007.So this is getting 2 1/2 the times the viewing area for less then we paid for our smaller LCD HDTV's.

I bought the sanyo plv-1080 last month for $1399. I was unsure of sanyo until I started researching them. I can tell you first hand that sanyo projectors are a great value. I have a 120" screen with a 1080p projector for under $1600. You'll love it

Awesome News and Thanks for the Input.
Also sounds as if you have an incredible set up with the Sanyo Projector(at 1080) and a 120 inch screen.
I appreciate you putting a good word in for Sanyo's Quality.I have one of their LCD TV's and its been a Great Performer.
