Default Feeling Stupid? Trade Your 60GB PS3 For An 80GB At EB Games

http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/..._eb_games.html

Usually EB's email specials are decent, but the latest one is a massive exception. Massive. Head to EB and hand over $200, four games and your "old" 60GB console and a brand-new 80GB can be yours!

This would be a fantastic deal, if it wasn't so damn, damn awful. Scratch that... it's devious. It works out to be ~$600 for 20GB... as long as you don't mind losing backwards-compatibility, some USB slots and the card reader. Add to this the fact 20GB is worth $4, going by current HDD prices, and it's basically one of the worst deals I've ever seen. The sad thing is people are going to buy into it.

Nothing more to say, really, except to warn your friends and family who are lucky enough to own a 60GB that the deal is horrible.

Neither you nor I nor the OP nor the kotaku editors know the answer to that question...

i heard they are also taking used Corvette's with $500 cash and handing out BRAND NEW shiny huffy bikes. The PS3 deal kinda sucks but I might jump all over this one

Maybe this is a conspiracy and they are trying to gather all the "perfect" versions of the ps3 and hand you a watered down, lower cost ps3 so that your friend who bought theres after launch will not feel "envious" of you

So for only $110 and shipping and handling, you can actually buy a 320 gig HDD that you can install in your PS3, way better than this deal.

Of course my PS3 is an 80 gig, but I have the version with some backwards compatibility, 4 usb ports, and card readers.

If your launch era (Nov06) PS3 is starting to get flaky about reading discs... May be a good deal if the $200 wasn't involved.

When they added that part.... it was hopelessly dumb.

My PS3 was purchased Nov 17th and still has more then a year left on extended warranty. I do hope it lasts forever though... I've really come to love it.

I hope they get ripped off by people with defective 60gb machines just for coming up with that scam!

I see no real benefit to this deal other then 20GB and a brand new system. The cost of the deal and what you lose is baffling. The sad thing is that people that are not in the know will hop on this deal not realizing what they are giving up. It is true that they may not use the extra USB ports, or card reader or backwards compatibility, but still, the deal is not good.

Even if you have a 60GB that is on the way out, it would be cheaper to send it to Sony for repairs and when you get it back install a larger hard drive. The general public is not aware how easy and inexpensive it is to change out a hard drive either. It probably would help if they opened a manual every now and then too.

This is stupid beyond belief. I'm glad I don't know of anyone that would trade in their ps3 PLUS $200 and the games for that. But if I did, and they traded that, I would probably slap them in the face. Absolutely ludicrous!

LOL!!! I bet the employees are all pissed that they weren't able to get the perfect 60GB units at launch because they are employed by the company and had to release all units to the public first?!?!?! Now, to appease their "disgruntled" employees, head office has divised a way to please them?

I would actually like to hear a detailed explanation behind the reasoning of this deal from someone at their head office. Has anyone e-mailed them to get a further description behind why they are advertising it as a deal and not as a scam?

Quote "I bet the employees are all pissed ..."

Heh,.. I don't know which is slimier here Gamestop employees or Radio Shack employees.

Actually,... I think Radio Shack has the edge. My RS had a cute girl working last December but I don't think she lasted a full week. She didn't have enough life experience to be a proper RS swindler.

I'm kind of glad to have a Gamestop near me but if the employees start talking to me I usually just walk out. I can't much stand to hear them when they are talking to customers on the phone either.

I would LOVE to find out if it's just because they wanna scoop up all the backwards compatible models so then people will have to pay to download the PS2 games or whatever.
