Can someone explain me the real differance between these 2?
I'm buying a PS3 this month, in Canada, does anyone know of any deals? I could get a PS3 80gb with motorstorm and NHL 08 for 499$ or the 60GB Version for 479$. That is the best I've found so far, I wonder if I should wait near Christmas or right after CHristmas for an even better deal. What say you guys? |

20 GB...really the only two differences is 20 GB and that the 60 GB still has the EE chip so all PS2 games are backwards compatible. The 80 GB version removed the EE chip and only uses software emulation for backwards compatiblity. So not all PS2 games are playable on the 80 GB. Other than that the specs and the cosmetic look between the two are identical.
If backward compatibility is key then go with the 60 GB. Storage space, as far as hard drives are concerned, are dropping. So in the future if you start running out of space you can upgrade to a much larger hard drive since the PS3 has a user replaceable hard drive which does not void the warranty. 40GB ps3 is only good for watching blu-ray movies and playing ps3 games. well and also folding@home along with some of the main things like internet, music, pictures, and firmware updates i personally would go with the 60 or the 80. thats just my 2 cents worth

The main difference is 20GB and PS2 compatibility. Check the list of compatible games that you have with the 80GB PS3. If it's low to none, get the 80GB.

One more thing, how about old dvds, they play the same on he 60gb as well on the 80gb? I dont have many PS2 Titles besides SW Bounty Hunter, Silen Hill 2-3, Fatal Frame 1-3, The Thing, Jursassic Park Genesis, AVP Exctinction, LOTR something and a bunch of others. |

Hi,
I Need everyone's opinion, I could get a new PS3 60gb for 479$ but no free games, a used 60gb PS3 with no games for 350$ (It's from a big store and they offer a 30 day return policy) or I could get a 80gb PS3 with Motorstorm and NHL 08 for 499$, new of course. Which one should I go for, some of my silent hill and fatal frame titles seem to have problems on the 80gb, I wonder if it's good to buy the used one here for just 350$. It's only 30 days though, I can picture a spring springing out of it on the 32nd day lol. But for 350$ and the fact that it's a 60gb, i could use the money Ill save to buy Oblivion Game of the year edition for PS3.
I guess if I could still get the Sony Warranty with it, ill get it, how long does sony's ps3 warranty last anyhow? Last edited by Easywolf32; 12-09-2007 at 03:13 PM. |

If you have a bunch of PS2 games that are not emulated correctly according to the list, buy the new 60 gig model and upgrade your hard drive down the road if needed. Personally, if your gaming I would stay away from the 40 gig model or 20 gig model. The 40 gig model offers no backward compatibility, no memory card slots, and only 2 USB ports instead of 4. The 20 gig model does not have built in WiFi, so that can limit your system placement either today or in the future. Finally, IMHO I would steer clear of buying a used PS3. It's too significant an investment to chance on a used console - even with a 30 day warranty. |
