Ok i had 60gb ps3 which can play all ps2 and 1 games, but is generate quite a lot of fan noise. I try clean and dust it out it stilll has the noise level. is it any 80gb will not had the same issue? I plan to get slim ps2 if i get the 80gb ps3.
Also has anyone back up ps3 before, does it back up ps2 game? |

Personally, I would keep the 60gig PS3 and purchase a seperate stand-alone player if you had the extra money. Prices on stand-alones are dropping considerably. Performance over the PS3 is the same if not better in newer players. Performance dealing with load times and picture quality.
If you can bear with the 60gig for a few more months, look to pick up a stand-along around 'black friday'. I wouldn't doubt it if they don't have some tremendous deals on stand-alone Blu-ray players. If you want one earlier than that, I'm sure you could find really great prices on Pioneer's and Sony's. |

Though I believe you can manually backup PS2 saved games onto a USB drive. Its just not covered on the system backup. |

You should keep it, as apart from having PS2 compatability, it also has 4 USB ports and various card readers (SD, etc...).
If you want extra HD space then just buy a new compatible laptop hard drive and upgrade it yourself. Sony have deliberately made it very easy to do. |

The only reason that may stop me from replacing my 80GB with a PS3 Slim is the lack of USB ports. Though I can always buy a USB hub for $10, lol.

Well a repair would cost $150, but that won't fix the heat/fan noise. the 60GB PS3 uses much more power then new models, and so produces more heat and runs the fan faster. It didn't bother me when I had my 60GB model, but now that I've upgraded the difference is huge.
Like others have said, it only has 2 USB ports and no memory card readers. I never use more then 1 USB port at a time nor do I use memory cards (plus I have a USB card adapter if I ever needed one anyways) so these things don't bother me either. |

And as for the OP, most stand-alones are no where near as loud as the 60gig, and even newer 80/160gig PS3s. Last edited by Audiophile_At_Birth; 07-20-2009 at 05:30 PM. |
