Default who else regrets buying burnout party?

by no means am i a big gamer, but i enjoy burnout paradise.
so when criterion comes out with the offline multiplayer "party" expansion for $10 i went for it, and i regret it!

i guess it's my own fault for assuming that when a game that's meant to do online simultaneous multiplayer releases an offline multiplayer expansion it would mean offline simultaneous multiplayer (aka split-screen).
not a bad assumption necessarily, after all, look at the quality free updates we've gotten with burnout: bikes, night/day, more modes, new challanges, trophies, etc. so what do we get when we pay $10? something of proportionally greater value? no! a POS pass-the-pad mode!! even in the original mario bros for NES you didn't have to pass the pad for its take-turns mode.

bloody hell, what a rip.

so who else paid $10 for offline multiplayer thinking it meant split-screen?

lol. on a 40" you'd get a grand total of 5 inches of space to yourself. break out the telescope!

but i can empathize with the OP. ive made purchases just assuming it meant one thing, when in fact it did not.

yeah, breaking the screen into 8 squares is 8 small squares, but we did have 4 player split-screen on our SD consoles, 8 player on HD is still coming out ahead. i was really only looking for 2 player anyhow.

I bought it too because I assumed it was 2 player split screen. I blame myself for rushing to judgement and not researching at all.

Well, I think it could be misleading to those who don't read forums all the time. I could see where someone could easily assume such a thing.

But still, the responsibility lies with Branden to research what he's purchasing.

i'm not a huge gamer, i don't keep up to date on the latest game announcements, i wouldn't know. so i made an reasonable assumption that turned out to be wrong, to me offline multiplayer implies split-screen and pass-the-pad dies with SNES.

even so, is this party expansion really worth $10 to anyone?

I don't regret it either. It has been a lot of fun when I have 4 or more people come over. And drinking. Lots of laughs have ensued LOL Other than this, LBP or Rockband are the only other thing we would play. Even then, it's harder for everybody else to get into LBP or play Rockband.

I hope you realize that the OP's point is that the party pack does NOT have split-screen...

Can someone describe what this expansion pack actually does?

I haven't bought it because EA's description of what it was seemed pretty vague. Almost intentionally so.

I've yet to see anything resembling a detailed description of this pack.

I got the party pack with the Ultimate Box re-package which is cheaper so it's kind of an advantage and it's the only play to enjoy with friends. So i really like it, I just hope they have another 2-Player split screen too.

exactly. the description on PSN used the words "offline multiplayer" and didn't state it wasn't split-screen either, which can leave you with a false impression. it is my fault for making a false assumption (no matter how sensible it was), but it should have been more clear what you were getting.

the update just gives you pass-the-pad challenges. ie. you take out X number of billboards in as little time as you can, then pass the pad to player #2, and so on one at a time, then see who got the best time. you cannot have yourself and some of your friends go for a race as you would online.
