First off, I know HTiB's suck for the most part, but I am very cheap and want to get one for CHEAP! Before anyone suggests Onkyo 606 (I would get it, trust me), or anything, I live in Canada so it is HARD to come by for cheap.
My question is, can I get HD audio (Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD, etc.), from a sh*t receiver, like one from a HTiB, since the PS3 already decodes it (as I have learned), and sends it as PCM signal. Am I right in saying the PS3 decodes it? My options for HTiB were boxing day sales like, this, this. If these suck TOO much, can anyone suggest a good receiver, and speaker set-up, that can be had for cheap in CANADA. Also, if I were to splurge and find one of these, tomorrow, should I jump on it? Because I am sure I could find a good Polk set of speakers for $200-300. |

Those definitely suck and won't do what you want. Get the Pioneer receiver. Its a great receiver and it will do exactly what you want and that's a great price too. If you can get it go for it and the Polk speakers....a much better investment than those Samsung HTIB's. I understand the want to be cheap in this economy, but trust me when I tell you that those particular HTIB's are complete junk. There are some good ones out there, but when you can go separate at the prices you can get the Pioneer receiver and Polk speakers for it doesn't even make sense to consider them since they will be inferior still. Oh yeah, and the PS3 does decode the sound and sends it as uncompressed audio to the receiver.

I figured as much. But is it possible to get HD sound of them, I am curious to know if they can even accept the feed the PS3 will give them, the PCM lossless audio one.
