Unhappy What should I do? Moral dilemma...

Ok, I really want to pick up a new Pioneer Elite 60" KURO.
The Pioneer would be going into our great room and it would be our main TV watching display.

Here's the dilemma...

We currently have a Sony 35" CRT XBR (made in Japan) in the great room that I have had since new (11+ years). The Sony TV has an amazing picture even though it's only 480i and the internal speakers are very powerful and crystal clear.
We have had no problems with this TV and it still performs like new.

The Wife and I have agreed that as soon as the Sony dies we will replace it with the Pioneer but I'm starting to worry as I don't think this Sony will ever die.

I could just get rid of it and the problem would be solved but I feel loyal to the TV as it has given me years of trouble free service and it now feels like part of the family. I know that it's just a material item but having it taken away would be the equivalent of having my dog put down.

Part of me wants it to die as I could then replace it with the Pioneer but the other part of me wants it to live forever.

What should I do?

Zak

If you have the $$$ and want the new TV, buy it. If it will cause financial problems (debt) if you get the TV, use this one until it does or you can afford the new Kuro.

OR

You could break the Sony and have a valid reason to get the Kuro

I agree; then get the Kuro. Consider that this will be the last year to get the Pioneer since they are going out of production.

i agree just move the sony to another room. no reason to break a perfectly functional tv and this way you can upgrade and still keep the safety and comfort of your old tv.11 years is pretty darn good for a tv i mean that's only a year younger then MIR lasted.

that's always the smart move but you could always convince her since the Models are going away that it will be the last chance to purchase this great of a TV. Besides I'm sure there's a work out room or work room that it could go in...

Keep the Sony or give it to a relative that might need it. Buy the Kuro as you will be overwhelmed at the difference you see. The best display bar none.

That Sony could easily go another 9 years or more working perfectly!
It's not HD though, that's the biggest issue. Move it into a "family room", living room, bedroom or see if a relative/friend wants it.

The 60" KURO will be a massive jump in quality and definition.

Default CRT's can last a life time (well practically)

You will have two TV's that work fine, my parents bought a Sony Trinitron back when I was about 5 and 20 years later (one repair) my sister uses it her room. CRT's can have a very long life before they start to show signs of ageing. If you don't have any use for an extra TV you could always give it to a family member or sell it to some one you work with.

I say if you can afford the 60" Elite Kuro, go for it while the getting is good. They'll be gone soon enough and you'll be kicking yourself then for not acting sooner. Besides, I'd imagine with the Kuros effectively "OOP" already, the longer you wait, the higher the price is going to go.

listen, once the wife SEES the new 60" in the living room, she will question your manhood as to why you didnt buy it sooner.

sometimes you have to show her who swings the 'johnson' in the house.

when it comes to electronics you can show her your 'man power'

get the tv and move the other tv to the bedroom

2 things will happen

A) she will be happy watching downstairs on that 60" beast
B) she will stay in the bedroom MORE due to having a bigger tv and thus leaving you alone for sports & gaming

the key is doing the switch/buy when she is NOT around. and when she comes home she will be surprised.

I once heard of someone who "killed" a good Japanese TV... he released a demon girl that killed his whole family

Zak times a wasting! Buy it before they run out of the 60s. I've had Sonys all my life as well [since 1985] and am very loyal to them, but the Kuro is as good as it gets. Incidentally would it be the Elite or the Non-Elite?
