Default The English Patient

Has anyone heard any rumors of a BD version of "The English Patient"? It's one of my wife's favorites and I think it could look great in BluRay.

Nope but it's an Oscar winner and one of Miramaxses best back catalog titles. I say in a couple of years 2010-2011 around the time Oscar films for that year are released you should see past Oscar winners such as this be released.

All very hypothetical though.

It's available for pre-order on Amazon for a May 5th release....hoping for a decent remastering effort from Miramax.

This movie would look FANTASTIC on blu. Is it only coming out in Canada? Couldn't spot it on Amazon.com.

Me neither. Is it going to be one of those Alliance titles? or a proper Disney/Miramax release?

Thanx for the info, McCrutchy.

Default The English Patient--Canadian BD release is a bit thin...

Just ordered this through Amazon.ca by way of the links on https://www.blu-ray.com for about $18.00. Price not bad, image quality overall. not bad... BUT,,,, on VERY CLOSE INSPECTION (scanned label at 800dpi, then go in CLOSE to view **TINY** print on the package label), it is in fact NOT 1080p its 1080i.... so this may have some shortcomings???

This should be noted CLEARLY on the label, and in the information BEFORE ORDERING... Given the choice, I would've waited for a "deluxe" edition...

Meanwhile, a HUGE **BUT**.....
----NO SUBTITLES AT ALL...
----and NO EXTRAS AT ALL,,, Zip, Nothing, bupkis!!!!

I hope they do a much better re-release of this SOON, with lots of extras on a second-disk, if needed (it's a nearly 3 hour movie so not much extra space for "extras" on a single disk, admittedly...)

They just don't MAKE (very often!) wide-screen "epics" like this one----seems a shame not to make a DEFINITIVE masterpiece out of the BD presentation... Cutting corners on the re-presentation and packaging is SO cheap-and-nasty!!

....I wish CRITERION would embrace BD.... THEY do do "definitive" packaging of classic movies... on DVD.... <sigh>
